There is currently being proposed a new Ohio law, HB430 by State Representative Jennifer Garrison. Rep. Garrison said the new legislation would ban the most serious, or Tier III, sex offenders from being in or around schools, pre-schools, and child day-care facilities in the state of Ohio. At least 12 other states have similar laws, said Rep. Garrison, and she hoped the same will be brought to Ohio. *update below* I have some family members who were at one point stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C, although despite the best intentions I never made it there to visit during my many trips to NC over the years. Few can forget the horrific case against Chester Arthur Stiles, 37- he made worldwide news when a video was discovered which was filled with graphic evidence of him sexually abusing a young girl. A nationwide search went out for information on locating the child, and in hopes of tracking down the sick pervert. After some time, the child was found safe, while Stiles was later arrested in connection to the case. He recently entered a plea of ''not guilty'' in the criminal case against him, in which he is charged with lewdness with a child under 14, sexual assault with a child under 14 and attempted sexual assault with a child under 14. Stiles, if found guilty, and sparing any surprise plea deals by the DA, faces life in prison (multiple lives actually). The judge set trial for April 14. Michaela Joy Garecht was just 9 years old in 1988 when she went missing from Hayward, California. She's never been found. Now, her family is hoping that someone out there might have the answers as to what happened to her, and they are reaching out looking for information that can help bring her home and bring her abductor to justice. From the Charlie Project : Garecht and a friend rode their scooters to the Rainbow Market on Mission Boulevard in Hayward, California on November 19, 1988. The store was two blocks from Garecht's home. Garecht noticed that her friend's scooter had been moved in the parking lot when the girls exited the store; when she went to retrieve it, an unidentified Caucasian male grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle. We've talked before about having the death penalty as a possible sentence for rape. So, if you need to refresh yourselves on my position- read here. If you've been here long enough to have figured out where I stand on the issue, or are already well aware of the Coker case, and other case law on death for rape- then read one. Jay, over at stop the ACLU is reporting on an important hearing that is quickly approaching, after a recent decision by the supreme court to hear arguments over whether the death penalty in a child rape case should be acceptable or not. The Supreme Court agreed on Friday to decide whether the Constitution allows the death penalty for the rape of a child. The justices acted only three days before a scheduled argument in another important death penalty case, on the standard for judging whether chemicals used to administer lethal injections make that method of execution unconstitutionally cruel.
