James Renner

Many of you should recall investigative reporter/author James Renner, who has been mentioned once or twice by me here . James has a special gift in bringing life back to cold cases, and telling their stories with vivid passion. Which is why it delights me to be able to share his new blog with you. www.jamesrenner.wordpress.com Go ahead, click over and see what he's been up to.

Blushing...

I have to admit, and many of you already know it- but I sneak in and check referring links to here via a site stat meter. It's just a way to see what posts are getting interest, and to get an idea of how some of the visitors stumble in here. My own little curiosity, although I should say that 99% of bloggers share that gene with me. Some of the links to here, I wish I wouldn't have seen. Nothing like clicking on a site, only to find out that someone thinks I'm a dumbass, or realising that they were only here because Google somehow mistook this for a porn site- still not sure how that happens! But then today, I found a link via a message board. And, while I don't want to point anyone out by naming names- I do want them to know that I appreciate their thoughts. So, hopefully, whoever you are, you make the connection and realise that I'm blushing a little, and grateful a lot. As a helpful hint- in the slim case anyone else has linked me- to the person who provid...

Victims over the AoC

Most of you already know AoC is the term used to refer the legal term "age of consent". And while this blog usually focuses a little more on the sexual abuse of those UNDER the AoC, there is another blog I felt you all might take some interest in. Victimized over the AoC, is a well written blog focusing on the crimes committed against victims that are mostly adults. The blogger does a incredible job of highlighting the importance of establishing laws and providing a voice to those who are older- but victims none the less. What is even more interesting is that the blogger is a man. And I mean that with the highest amount of respect. All to often, it feels as the fight against sexual crimes is being fought by politicians and women alone- so having a man share in supporting these victims is note worthy to say the least. I had the chance to do a little corresponding with the blogger, Brian Heard and with his permission- I'm sharing an email from him with you. I found it i...

When those who shouldn't have children do...

We've all read the articles about people who in some cruel twist of fate have been left in charge of children. You know the people I'm talking about- they are the sort you'd feel bad leaving an animal with, let alone allowing them to 'care' for children. People who shouldn't have kids, but do. Parents who should not only have their children removed, but should have all their reproductive organs taken out too for preventive measures. Trench calls them Bad Breeders , and has added yet another blog to his collection of many many blogs, dedicated just to them.

Crime Junkies...

If you look down at my Recommended Crime Blogs links, you'll see a new one added- it's Crime Junkies . The name pretty much says it all, so be sure to click over and check it out.

Bloggers include : Pat Brown Andrea Campbell Kathryn Casey Tina Dirmann Stacy Dittrich Diane Fanning Cynthia Hunt Vanessa Leggett Michele McPhee Donna Pendergast Robin Sax Katherine Scardino Donna Weaver So head on over and say hi.

Quick Links

I know, I know... I'm slacking here. But- just so I don't seem as if I've gone completely lazy on ya'll... I figured I'd share just a few of the interesting cases I've been reading up on. Steve's doing his homework on a gruesome murder case that is sure to leave you feeling the creepy crawlies on the back of your neck- and that also comes complete with an odd list of 'bring along' supplies. It sounded like the sort of murder a screenwriter might concoct: respected psychologist hacked to death by cleaver-wielding patient. To anyone who entered the office of Dr. Kathryn Faughey after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, it was a terrible reality. Trench is looking into a possible new law that seems as silly as schools accepting a 'note from your mom' explaining you were ill on senior skip day in high school. State legislators in Illinois are trying to pass a law that would require sites like MySpace and Facebook to get written parental permission before kids w...

Short on time...

I've been busier than you can imagine, but I've had some interesting cases come across my desk (read that to mean my email has been working overtime) in the last few days that I couldn't help but share with you. Dallas police are looking for a serial predator, whose sexual attacks date back to 2005. He's known for approaching women while they are near their cars, and most of the attacks have taken place in parking lots of apartment complexes late at night. Police describe the suspect as a 25- to 35-year-old black man who is either bald or has very short hair. He's said to be 5' 8" to 6' tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds with a heavy build. Police say this is not the same suspect who has struck in other North Texas cities during the same time period, including Plano and Frisco. According to police, that man has struck a total of 19 times in various North Texas cities. SOURCE Registered sex offender Angel Sistrunk has once again been arrested, this t...

Do me a favor...

I don't ask much of ya'll, so I feel it's more than okay to send out this small, painless request. It seems that Corey, from In Cold Blogger has devised a little 'best of' contest- relating to crime. From blogs and bloggers, to books and movies- it's some sort of criminal voting over there. Now, I was nominated in two categories. But, I'll just be honest with you- I find myself up against two great crime bloggers who are way more deserving. So, I'm asking that you go vote... for them. Trench, multi crime blogger and the original god father of crime blogging in the " Best True Crime Blogger " category, and Bonnie, of Bonnie's Blog of Crime for Best True Crime Blog . Congrats to all nominated... and best of luck.

Happy Halloween

Given the spooky and bizarre nature of the holiday, I felt it would be proper to bring you a few creepy stories from the CCB. Black and missing has the frightful turned delightful case of a missing woman who's been found alive and well. Over at Perverted Primates there's a old twist on Along Came A Spider. Bonnie's My Life Of Crime has a conviction and sentence update on the case of two children shot dead. Laura James has some genre news over at CLEWS (sorry for the rhyme!) Stephen is doing some interesting blogging while away at the crime festival. Crime Shadow News has some words on who ought to be planning a long stay in hell. Dreaming Demon is all over the case of Vincent Roy Margera , who plays "Don Vito" on MTV. Home Sweet Home shows that there is nothing spookier than a Couple Problems , and that these problems aren't just hanging around the house. MyCrimeSpace is presenting a new spin on a scary Halloween party. Psycho for Love gives new meaning to ...

Just sharing...

I've started something new, and wanted to share it with all of you. Given the special topic... I thought you might be interested. Perverted Primates , because some people are just subhuman.

Coalition of Crime Bloggers

I've joined the coalition of crime bloggers , and you should too- because while the blogroll is limited to bloggers of the criminal mind- the group itself is open to everyone. Forums, blogs, and friendly discussions. All the dirt on the latest crimes. What more could you want?

Things I missed

A few interesting things I missed while I was gone- not that I'm completely back yet- but I really felt the need to share them. Trench has Prosecutor Scumbag Peepants tries to off himself , the tale of prosecutor John Atchison who wanted to sexually abuse a few children in between pretending to "put the bad guys away". I suppose he forgot it was criminal to do so. Asshole. Twenty-eight-year-old Nailah Franklin has been missing since at least Tuesday. The successful pharmaceutical sales rep had reported threats received from a male, possibly an ex, prior to her disappearance. Read more about Nailah at CrimeBlog.US . Home Sweet Home explains What is a Safety Plan , and it's a must read. Being a friend or family member of someone when you have concerns they may be abused can leave you feeling helpless. You cannot make them leave the relationship. But maybe, just maybe in order to make you feel better- maybe you can convince them to read about and complete a safety plan. ...

In the news...

Long time crime blogging comrade and friend Stephen from Crime Scene Blog was recently interviewed by The State, a South Caroline newspaper. They've discovered what most of us have known for sometime- what a great asset Stephen is to the crime reporting world. Be sure to stop over and check out the write up , and then pop in and see what Stephen has been writing up lately.

New crime blog

Almost everyone knows what Craigs List is- but for those that don't, it was one mans answer to putting classified ads online. While the idea is appealing- and was ahead of it's time by years and years... it's also been a bit of a problem as people began using the free service as a way to participate in criminal activity. Drugs, theft, prosecution... they are all weekly activities going on thanks to the user submitted ads. Of course, I wouldn't be mentioning Craigs List if I didn't have a good reason to- and thankfully Trench of CrimeNews has given me just that reason. In a spin off of his ever popular MyCrimeSpace blog, Trench has started CraigsCrimeList , a collection of the crimes related to Craigslist users.

TCB Carnival Time

This week, Trench has kindly buried himself in crime stories just to host our weekly True Crime Carnival . For inclusion in future TCB carnivals, please feel free to submit your crime related post via Blog Carnival .
