Matthew Calek

Matthew Calek evidently thinks its cute that as he gets older, he thinks the age of the males he's attracted to might get older to. Sadly for some teenagers- his current attraction seems to be boys in their teens. Calek was sentenced to five years in prison in Iowa in 2002 after a conviction for enticing a 15-year-old boy to engage in sex. Seven months after his release from prison while still on supervised release, Calek posed as a 14-year-old named "Josh" on MySpace and befriended a Philadelphia boy, 15, who was having family problems, prosecutors said. At Josh's invitation, the boy flew to Chicago in July 2006, but Calek sexually assaulted him in a secluded area and abandoned him, the charges alleged. Three months later, Calek posed as an MTV producer and enticed a 17-year-old boy to read a script for a possible movie role, according to his plea agreement. The script had a sex scene. The boy balked at first but later agreed to engage in sex with Calek while being v...

Justices Gerry Alexander, Charles Johnson, Richard Sanders, Tom Chambers, Susan Owens and Debra Stephens hate kids

Justices Gerry Alexander, Charles Johnson, Richard Sanders, Tom Chambers, Susan Owens and Debra Stephens have joined together to shine a spotlight on their true feelings for victims. And in the process, left one lone Justice to dissent on their decision while being the only one moved to uphold the idea of justice being served. Randy J. Sutherby was arrested after a five year old female relative came forward about him crawling into bed with her, and molesting her while he was on an overnight visit at her families home. Sutherby was investigated, and eventually charged with child molestation and child rape charges and unrelated child porn charges due to material found by police during a search. In the appeal at issue, Randy J. Sutherby argued that Grays Harbor County prosecutors erred by charging him with seven counts of possession of child pornography while consolidating that case with child molestation and child rape charges related to an alleged assault on a 5-year-old girl. Six of ...

Corey Deen Saunders gets life

Corey Deen Saunders, the convicted sex offender who police say lured a 6 year old boy into a bathroom in a library and raped him in 2008 was sentenced to life in prison. Just don't release that sign of relief just yet. It turns out Saunders, who is 27 will be eligible for parole in just 15 years. The very fact that this latest attack could have been prevented only serves to make the story more disturbing. Saunders was released from prison in December 2006, despite objections from prosecutors and three psychologists who said he was too dangerous to be let out. He is a Level 3 sex offender, a designation given to those believed most likely to re-offend. The case reignited debate over a civil commitment law that allows prosecutors to request that sexual offenders be locked up indefinitely after completing their prison terms. Prosecutors sought to have Saunders committed after he served his term. But a judge rejected the request, citing Saunders' history of being sexually abused a...

Eugene Snitily

Eugene Snitily's lawyer believes the sentence he received for molesting his 4 year old granddaughter is too harsh, so he's considering appealing it. While that's not unusual, because no one ever thinks their sentence is fair, I think this lawyer might just be trying to redefine the term "harsh". After all, two years probation barely even hints at being a real punishment. The judge in the case, who served on the March of Dimes board with Snitily in 1981 believed the sentenced was justified, and "said it was appropriate in light of the guilty verdict. He said Judge Randall relied on psychological testing and expert assessments. "The court made the decision that Mr. Snitily is at very low risk of acting out in any sexual manner." Meanwhile, the County Attorney also plans on appealing the sentence, stating " "We felt that sentence was inappropriate and excessively lenient so therefore, I'm filing an appeal."" The girl's mothe...

Someone help me with my math

Let's see, 23 years old. Sentenced to 12 years in prison to be served with another 18 year sentence. That would make him... 41? Naw, that can't be right- because the judge clearly calls him " a young man sentenced to the rest of his life in prison ,". I've went back and checked my math, but no matter how many times I do it- I still come up with 41. That doesn't include early release- if he gets it. And I was pretty sure that the average life span was up in the 70's or 80's. Forty one seems awfully young to assume he'll be dead at that age. A 23-year-old man who could spend the rest of his life behind bars for molesting several Tri-City boys said Thursday that he wants help. Vernon Neil Fannin of Richland apologized to the victims and their families as he was sentenced in Benton County Superior Court to a minimum term of 12 years and five months in prison. It will be served at the same time as an 18-year sentence he received in Franklin Coun...

Rape, Baby, Abortion, Marriage

One of four teenage boys who picked a then 16 year old girl up from her home and proceeded to get her drunk before taking turns raping her was sentenced to juvenile custody until his 21 birthday. According to testimony and police, after the four boys raped the girl, they bragged about the incident on various social networks and through email. It was also reported that the boys had discussed killing the victim in order to prevent her from testifying against them. During sentencing of the 3 attacker, the judge cited the boys "utter lack of remorse" as reasoning for the sentencing. While sentencing the boy in King County Juvenile Court, Judge Michael Hayden revealed that the victim, 16 at the time of the attack, became pregnant as a result and later had an abortion. [...] But Hayden said that what "struck me the hardest" was a section of a presentence report in which the boy was quoted as calling the girl a liar for accusing him of rape. Other presentence documents in...

And he's still out of jail?

Bonnie over at My Life of Crime sent over this case from CNN a few days ago, and to be honest- I just couldn't figure out how it is that anyone, let alone a judge, could assume that allowing this man who has been convicted to remain free comes anywhere close to actually bring justice to his victims. For nearly two years, the South Florida middle school art teacher forced the boy to have sex in a classroom supply closet. Sometimes, Aaron Mohanlal would call in sick to work, take the boy to his home for sex and drop the seventh-grader back off at school at the end of the day. To keep the abuse secret, Mohanlal bought the 13-year-old a cell phone and created nicknames for their genitalia. When police arrested him, the teacher was caught on hidden video trying to destroy letters threatening the boy if he ever told. He was arrested, he was tried and found guilty. He was even sentenced. But he's out on bail awaiting an appeal of his conviction. "The idea of that monster b...

No Jail Time?!?

Before Aaron Nichols could even get a drivers license, he'd already molested enough children to convince most people that he was a danger to society. Most people, but not all people. Not his father, who he'd confessed to and who had instructed him to 'remain quiet', not the original prosecutor that waited until the last minute to admit that his dealings with Nichols father (the county coroner) and Nichols uncle (a county councilman) had conflicts of interest in handling the case, not even the first judge who also ended up recusing himself because of dealings with the same two men. And, amazingly after years of waiting for this to go to court- it seems that Nichols, charged with molesting an 11 year old boy in 2002 and an 8 year old boy in 2003, still hasn't had enough victims to convince the current prosecutor that he's a clear danger to society and needs to be locked up. Instead, the prosecutors office has worked up a plea deal with the defense that seems to do...

A perfect get a away

Donald Edward Lynch might like to travel a bit, but thanks to a judge with a backbone and some proper ethics- the only trips Lynch will be taking for the remander of his life are the ones from his jail cell to the jail house cafeteria. "I know you're not gonna probably live that long Mr. Lynch, but it is my intent that you never be outside the walls of the Tennessee Department of Correction at any time ever for the rest of your life," retired senior judge Jerry Scott informed Lynch at the conclusion of Friday's sentencing hearing. Lynch was convicted earlier this month of two counts each of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and aggravated sexual battery, and six counts of rape of a child. For his crimes, Scott ordered Lynch to serve 66 years in prison and pay $400,000 in fines. Credit for this proper sentence has been given to the testimony of counselors who talked about the effects Lynchs' actions have had, and will continue to have on hi...

Peter J. Kearney-Stanley needs 5 grand

Seriously, he might only need a small percentage of that. I know, you're wondering why he needs it to begin with. I won't keep you guessing any longer. It seems that Peter J. Kearney-Stanley needs the funds in order to make bail- $5,000 bail- after sexually abusing the 8 year old daughter of his ex girlfriend. Peter J. Kearney-Stanley, 24, of 1 Carmen Park Drive is being held on $5,000 cash bail in the Plymouth House of Correction after a Tuesday arraignment. He will return to Wareham District Court next month to answer to the charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. The charge originated in Wareham, where Stanley was living with his ex-girlfriend. According to court records, the Department of Social Services was investigating the mother for neglecting the 8-year-old and her 6-year-old brother. During a home visit in February, the 8-year-old said Stanley “touched me in the wrong spot.” The girl said she was sleeping and woke to him touching her. The Plymouth...

Maybe they will give him bail again...

Some people are just idiots ... A former Big Brother freed on bail while on trial for allegedly victimizing several boys was rearrested during the hearing after police alleged he continued to contact kids on an Internet chat line despite strict release orders not to communicate with youth under 18. Now the moms of the alleged victims want to know why the judge granted bail to the accused child molester a second time given the fresh batch of allegations, including violations of the previous bail. Really? Bail TWICE? Who the hell installed the revolving door in the jailhouse? They ought to be locked up for aiding and abetting.

Police officer gets off, and then does it legally too.

Someone tell me what the purpose of sentencing someone to 45 years is, if you are going to be a moron and suspend the sentence two seconds later. Seriously, explain it to me. And- explain how this "sentence" including the tossing away of the sentence can be anywhere close to proper, when the perp is a former police officer, who committed his crimes while he was still a police officer- and whose crimes were against children and sexually motivated : Randolph D. Smith, 60, pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of indecent liberties with children, getting a 45-year sentence - all of it suspended. All the incidents occurred while Smith was a sworn police officer. "At least it's a start to ruining his life," said one of the victims, now 39, who was 13 at the time of the first incident in 1982. "At least it's a start to holding him accountable. He ruined his own life by choosing to lead that lifestyle." He said he believes Smith has victimized other adole...

Judge gives okay to lure children, as long as place has only four poles and a roof

Mitchell Pask was convicted in 1992 of sexual assault. But, that didn't stop him from walking past a group of preteen girls and after saying "'Look at those sexy little salty girls'", motioning one (who was 9) to follow him towards a shelter made of four poles and a roof at a local park. The girl was smart enough to not follow him, police were smart enough to arrest him, and a jury was smart enough to convict him. A judge however, believed that because the "shelter" was in view of a a street, and was a sort of "open air" shelter as we call them- that the crime for which Pask was charged- Wisconsin's child enticement statute- didn't occur . After deliberating for just half an hour, a jury found 44-year-old Mitchell Pask guilty of trying to lure a 9-year-old girl to a park shelter for sex. But after the verdict was read Wednesday, Judge Timothy Van Akkeren stepped in. In a rare move, he overturned it and found Pask, who was convicted of s...

David E. Meyer

David E. Meyer is just 25, but he holds a sizable list of criminal offenses in his past- including a 2003 conviction for molesting a child, and more recent charges of battery by bodily waste, a felony, as well as misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest. What won't be on his record if his plea deal with Fort Wayne prosecutors goes through are the acts that actually put him into the position of resisting arrest to begin with: Prosecutors dropped two counts of criminal deviate conduct, a count of attempted rape, a felony count of battery, a count of criminal confinement and a count of being a repeat sexual offender. [...] Police arrested Meyer because a woman claimed he hit her at an undisclosed home and told her “Your boyfriend gave me permission to do what I want,” according to court records. The woman told police Meyer then sexually assaulted her, threatened to kill her, beat her, tried to rape her and held her captive for nearly an hour and a half, according to court documents. R...

Bad sentence of the day...

The men of Crime Rant have the bad sentence of the day . I wish I could say bad sentence of the century, or decade, year or even month... but let's face it- before we can even start to forget this one, another one just as bad if not worse will be given out like a piece of candy on Halloween.

Timothy Strickland

Timothy Strickland 38 of Florida was once friends with his neighbors across the street from his home. Now, after years of living so close to each other, the neighbors are feeling that it's about time for Strickland to move on to a new home.... I'm sure that it's safe to assume that they were hoping his new home would be a prison, but thanks to a local judge there's is little chance of him going anywhere that would be far enough away to satisfy his neighbors: The mother said her family befriended Strickland a couple of years ago. He was supposed to take her daughter to school one morning. Instead, police reports say he took the child back to his bedroom. Strickland was sentenced last week to two years home confinement and 10 years probation. "I told the judge all of that too. How can you let this man go? It hurts. It hurts to see a child molester get scott free," the victim's mother said. Two years home confinement? Is that some sort of award? Seriously, w...

Mahamu Kanneh Update

I brought you this story a few days ago, and now it seems that it has even more disturbing information coming to light. The prosecutor in the case of a Liberian native charged with repeatedly raping and molesting a 7-year-old girl said Monday that he is filing an appeal of a controversial judge's ruling that dismissed all charges because an interpreter who spoke the suspect's rare West African dialect could not be found. That's the good news. But, sadly that's not the only news, and this is likely to just piss you off even more than the fact that this judge dismissed the charges. The fact is on four separate occasions this court provided Vai interpreters," McCarthy said, adding that one of the interpreters had agreed to participate in further proceedings. Court records, meanwhile, show that an interpreter was "sworn" by a Maryland court on the same day Savage dismissed the case, FOXNews.com has learned. Loretta Knight, a clerk with the court system in Mo...

Language Issues

I completely believe that the US needs to have one single language. We need to be able to say that if you are coming to this country to live, you must speak English. You must be able to fully carry on a conversation. I know, it sounds harsh. After all, is it really fair to offer asylum to people in need, and then hold the offer out like a piece of candy dangling inches out of the grasp of a child- just because someone can't speak English? Yes. Because we have laws, and if you can't speak English, we can't know if you really understand them. And, then when you break them- the cost of finding someone who can speak whatever tongue you speak falls upon the court. And, when the court fails to find someone- things like this happen: A 7-year-old girl said she had been raped and repeatedly molested over the course of a year. Police in Montgomery County, acting on information from a relative, soon arrested a Liberian immigrant living in Gaithersburg. They marshaled witnesses and DNA...

Things to do when you have a bad day....

It's not been a terribly bad day, but it has been annoying enough for me to feel the need to flaunt a little of my bad mood around on other people. So... I opted to air my bad mood, and take up a subject that has been annoying me for sometime- that fictional Judge Keys book which is suppose to be about the case of Kelsey Briggs . zdrodowskil@plannedtvarts.com Having closely followed this story, and talked to many of the people involved in it, I just wanted to drop you a line to give you my thoughts. Anyone involved in stoking this lunatic's ego by publishing a self serving "tell what makes him look good passing the blame somewhere else" book is nothing more than a money hungry jackass. And, you might want to look into changing the lines about the "unknown abusers"... I'm pretty sure that after two convictions- we know who the abusers were, although I will concede that it was in character for the judge to continue denying who the abusers were. Lilo Yeah...

Shorty keeps probation

The infamous short sex offender who a Nebraska judge sentenced to probation rather than jail because she felt he was "just too little" won an appeal of the sentence after the Nebraska Court of Appeals decided the sentence was fitting. Augh. Richard W. Thompson was sentenced to 10 years of probation for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl by Judge Kristine Cecava, because in part he was "too short" to go to jail. Not to short to sexual abuse a child- but clearly the judge wasn't concerned about that: "So I'm sitting here thinking this guy has earned his way to prison, but then I look at you and I look at your physical size. I look at your basic ability to cope with people and, quite frankly, I shake to think what might happen to you in prison because I don't think you'll do well in prison," Cecava said in court, according to a court transcript of the hearing. It's wonderful when judges look at how well a predator will do in jail as a...
