REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
Julie Popovich was last seen Thursday night at
Ledo's (click for map) on North High Street. According to a police report, friends saw her get into a car with someone they thought she knew.

"This is not the profile for her. This does not fit her profile at all. She's a responsible young lady who just vanished," said Kevin Miles, of Crime Stoppers.

Employees at Ledo's searched credit card receipts from Thursday night, looking for clues.

"I know I've seen her in here before with groups of people. I've seen her come in playing darts in the dart room, sitting by the pool tables in the back," said Shawnell Starrett, Ledo's assistant manager.

Popovich is a model and she works at a Reynoldsburg Max and Erma's restaurant.

Her family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her return. She was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall , weighing 104 pounds.

"We believe someone knows something. We believe someone know where she is," Miles said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (614) 645-TIPS.

Doing a little investigation with what I think is one of the best uses of Ohio tax payers money- the ESORN sexual offender notification website- I have located 3 RECENTLY released sex offenders which are all in their early 20's to 30 years of age. I have picked them out from the others because of the recent release, and because of their prior offenses. And because they all reside within a 5 mile drive from Ledo's bar. I would image that at least one of them would fit into what a young woman would consider a "normal" guys appearance, and there is one listed that concerns me due to prior kidnapping charges.

Although this is only a thought on where one should begin looking- these are just my thoughts. No information has come out saying that any of them was in any way involved. My concern is that they have been recently released, they are known sex offenders and they lived within a imaginable range to the area Julie was last seen. And two of them have prior kidnapping charges.

I feel sorry for Julie that she is missing. There's also some reason that I'm upset. It's cause she was heavily drunk and underage that night. Things have come out, where she was flirting with older guys to buy her drinks, and she was partying alread before hand. I've run all the emotions over this case. I have some merit to do so. I knew her. She used to ride my bus in middle school and high school. I graduated in 2000, she was a freshman at PHS then. I always saw her. At times I feel sad for her, other times I am angry and hurt. I do hope she is found either way. I'm probably the only outsider that may feel so strongly about this whole case.

FIRST, LET ME SAY THAT I AM VERY SAD THEY HAVE NOT FOUND HER. IT'S A SHAME. BUT ONE THING THAT BOTHERS ME IS THE NEGATIVE IMAGE THAT IS NOW BEING THROWN AT LEDO'S.I WORK AT LEDO'S AND CAN SAY THAT SHE WAS 'DRUNK DRUNK' THE NIGHT SHE DISSAPPEARED; SHE FELL OFF THE BAR AT LEAST TWICE WHILE DANCING. AS HARD AS THE STAFF TRIES TO PREVENT THINGS LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING, YOU CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE AND SEE EVERYTHING AT ONCE. ALSO, I'VE WORKED THERE FOR MANY YEARS AND RECOGNIZE MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT COME IN; THE GUYS YOU HAVE IN YOUR BLOGS THAT ARE SEX OFFENDERS, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THERE. WE ARE VERY PICKY ABOUT THE CLIENTS WE ALLOW IN, AND MOST ARE COLLEGE AGE STUDENTS WHO DO NOT LOOK TROUBLED. HAS ANYONE LOOKED INTO POSSIBLE DRUG OVERDOSE?

I like most people who have heard about this case, have been touched by this case. I didn't know Julie, but it is still sad to see a young person or any person for that matter turn up missing.

One part about this that makes me angry, however, is Ledo's. I live in Columbus and have been to this bar several times. This bar does or should have a negative image. If you want to drink underage, go to Ledo's. So for them to say that they are careful about who they allow in their bar, I don't believe it. How can you say you are aware of who comes in your bar and "allow" underage drinking in the back of the bar. I'm not saying that Ledo's is to blame, but to say that sexual offenders didn't come into the bar is an unfair statement. Just because they are a sexual offender doesn't mean that they have the stereotype sex offender look. They can be clean cut and well dressed.

I am also unhappy with the negative publicity that she is getting. She was drunk, dancing, and having a good time. Yeah she was probably drunk enough to get sick, but let's be honest. I think we have all done that. The real focus should be on finding her and finding clues as to where she is and who she was last seen with. So don't be disappointed with her. She is just like everyone else. And for the parents out there... Just like your kids.

I knew Julie in High School. As a matter of fact, I think I've known her since elementary school. I know the girl whos ID it was, also very well. Julie was a stand up girl. Honestly, if you don't really know her or have even seen her outside of the pictures on the internet, please keep your comments to yourself. I think that this is a great tragedy and a real eye opener about whats really going on at Ohio State University. I have been to Ledo's numerous times, I have alwasy had a great time...I was always as drunk as Julie was. Thats what college kids do. But I really dont have to worry about being taken from a bar by a girl...it could happen, but its sort of silly to think about. Girls need to pay attention to who they know, who they leave with, and who they flirt with. You do not want to make the mistake that Julie was unfortuante enough to make that night. learn from this, and stay safe. God Bless You Julie.

Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously. When you are relying on the SO registries to monitors how safe your...
