Child Hospitalized After Eating Drugged Candy

First, I'd like to know who in their right mind would lace Sweet Tars with drugs. Given more, I'd like to know what sort of complete idiot would leave the tainted candies out where a child could possibly reach them. But mostly, I'd like to know what parent would take their child to the apartment lived in by said idiot, realise that there was a good chance the child had eaten 9 of the candies, and then take the child home. Not to a hospital, not to any sort of doctor or medical professional but home. And then not call the police, the hospital, or poison control- but call friends to come over.
Cedar Park police said Ashli Rene Freas, 22, was charged Monday with child endangerment after taking her son to the hospital.

An affidavit said Freas and her boyfriend over the weekend took her son to a party at an apartment. They went outside, leaving the boy inside with another adult.

The man who leased the apartment noticed that his roll of SweeTarts, which had been laced with the drug, was open and nine pieces were missing.


Freas took her son home and called friends to come over. Police said a friend called 911 after the boy was hallucinating.

I guess we can only really be thankful that the idiot mother has the luck to have at least one friend with half a brain.

Hi. My name is Megan, and first off all, I'd like to say this is ridiculious, and what a horrible mother she is!

Secondly - are you all from Lima, Ohio? What is funny is, I'm from Shelby Michigan, but I stopped in Lima .. this past Sunday to eat lunch on my way home from the Ichthus Festival in Kentucky. I went to Ray's Markert and bought food.. it was cool. If any of you Lima people want to chat, IM me!

I read this and did a double-take. When I was a student at Asbury theological seminary and on the board of directors for Ichthus it was in April...the last weekend in April...the weekend of the spring time change. Fortunately, there were no classes on Mondays there (to give student pastors a chance to get back to Wilmore). But I digress. I remembered that they recently changed the time of the festival. Regardless of when they have it it's good times.
Unfortunately, the parents in this story like a different kind of "good time" and it could have cost them their child.

Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida.
