Since I mentioned in my last post that there was a Halo Award going on (voting started today, so please check that post out for details).. I felt it important to inform readers that there is also another awards thing going on. The Bloggies- WebLog Awards for 2007 - have started accepting nominations. And, I'm just going to be honest with you- a crime blogger has never won. It's not a huge surprise- because even now crime bloggers are a relatively unknown group around the blogosphere. But, I'd like to change that this year- by challenging you all to nominate (and then vote for) your favorite crime bloggers. One of the things I didn't really get when I started blogging was that it would lead to having online friends. I was quite happy with the ones I had "in real life", and didn't even stop to think about the possibility of anything else. But, somewhere along the way, I found that online friends are one of the perks of blogging. They can cheer you up with a kind comment, or send a link your way, or just pop in to ask how you're doing- for no reason at all. I know, this is suppose to be a "thank you", according to the title- but instead it's going to turn into a "can you be so kind and do me a favor" post. A 911 operator in Bethlehem, Georgia answered a call on Thursday which would have made some people just hang up, as the caller was completely silent. The dispatcher kept the connection live rather than disconnecting and heard voices in the background saying that someone was bleeding. Police were sent to the home, where they discovered the bodies of two young children who had apparently stabbed to death. And the grandfather of the children badly beaten. The children were identified as Elexis Nicole Hill, 9, and her 4-year-old brother, James Ross Hill, and the grandfather as Charles Barn. Police are seeking the children's mother for questioning . Felicia Williams, 26, was wanted for aggravated assault on her father, Barrow County sheriff's Maj. Murray Kogod said. She had been at the home 40 miles northeast of Atlanta and could have information on Wednesday's stabbings, he said. One of the top fears on any parents list is that their child will somehow come into contact with someone wishing to do them harm. We read the stories, hear the news reports- and we're suddenly taken about at just how easy it seems for some predators to reach a child. And while this is a very normal reaction- it also leads to us believing that a predator, a child molester, will go after any and every child they come into contact with. This misrepresentation of the characteristics of child molesters often does more harm than good- because we look at a potential person and label them based upon what we think we already know. Take for instance Alexander Morales-Rivera, recently convicted of sexually abusing a young in Lancaster Pa. Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey A. Conrad said the abuse Morales-Rivera inflicted on the girl is deplorable. “This was a horrible rape of a child,” Conrad said. “There is no more heinous crime.” Lancaster city police began their investigation in June ...

(welcome baby center moms!) Update: the unmother of the year has been released on bail- links to her blog are now unavailable- as she's set it to private. Not to worry, as I've saved the pages- and you can access them at the end of the post. My first post on Nancy Dyer can be found here , however given the amount of information recently discovered- I decided to start a new entry on her rather than update the old one. Last weekend Dyer made the news when her 3 year old son was found playing on the highway, leading police to find her home in complete filth and her asleep while her daughter (2) ate food off of the floor with a diaper that was way past due for a changing. (You can see the image of the little girl as police found her in the previous post). Nancy Dyer awoke to hear news that would send most parents into a frantic state of concern- her three year old had been found playing on a highway, clothed in only a diaper and a shirt. Dyer however, responded in a most unsettling way "Oh, he got out again.". Turns out that within a matter of a few days, Dyer's son had been able to get out of their home twice without her noticing- or evidently caring. This time when police picked the child up off the highway, and tracked down Dyer as the "parent", they also found her two year old daughter inside the "filthy" home, eating food off of the floor. Reportedly, Dyer was sleeping while her son roam the highway, and while the other child wondered around in the home- which according to Fox News had feces on the walls, trash everywhere.
