Maryland state troopers said in a report two months ago that Prince George's
County District Court Judge Richard A. Palumbo, the focus of controversy in
recent days for a decision in a domestic violence case and a voided traffic
ticket, caused a two-vehicle accident in Charles County. But they did not issue

On Sept. 19, Palumbo dismissed a protective order that 31-year-old Yvette Cade had obtained against 33-year-old Roger Hargrave. She told the judge her husband was threatening her and her family, but Palumbo cut her off and advised her to go to divorce court before dropping the protective order. Yvette Cade was doused with gasoline and set on fire days later by Hargrave.
An attorney for Judge Richard Palumbo, who lifted the order, blamed it on a clerical error. But Chief Administrative Judge Thurman Rhodes said he believes Palumbo clearly dismissed the protective order during a hearing Sept. 19, according to a report in The Washington Post.
