Wendie Ann Schweikert

Clearly, we don't have enough good teachers anymore. It seems that not a week can go by without some lunatic teacher having sex with her students...

WYFF4.com - News - Police: DNA Evidence Supports Claim By Schweikert's Accuser
UPDATE:

It seems that Schweikert has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape of the young student. She was charged with eight counts of sexual misconduct and three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of lewd act upon a child. LE found that she had preformed oral sex on the child, and taken him to a parking garage for sex.

Her defense was the usual run of mental issues that everyone likes to throw around:
battling depression for years, she'd been abused as a child, has a borderline personality disorder, a sexual disorder and was recently diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, Yeah. Right.

Wendie Ann Schweikert, 37, was arrested in May 2006 and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and committing a lewd act on a minor. The case inflamed racial tensions because the student is black, and some black residents had argued that the teacher was getting lenient treatment by the courts.

She pleaded guilty and read a three-page apology to the victim, his family, E.B. Morse Elementary School and the community, Laurens County prosecutor Jerry Peace said.

Peace said that he offered a plea deal that would have recommended 14 years in prison for the former fifth-grade teacher, but that she refused and decided to take her chances with the judge.

A former student of the teacher in this case wrote a moving statement, expressing the pain and the effect that the abuse had- not only on the victim but on other classmates.
GreenvilleOnline
n part the student wrote, "I want to know why you did that to my friend and to the whole class. We trusted you so much, we thought you were the best teacher in the school. We don't want you on our minds any more. We hate you."

Peace argued for the maximum sentence of 20 years, saying her actions had a profound effect on the 11-year-old boy, the school and the community.

Although, out of fairness- Schweikert's statement seems to be an attempt at being moving itself. Somehow, I don't by it- but then again, I rarely do.

Schweikert read a prepared statement begging the victim's family to forgive her. "I'm sorry for my sin," she read. "There aren't any words to convey how sorry I am.

"I hope and pray one day you'll know how sorry I am for taking away his innocence. All my life I've wanted to be a teacher. It's what God made me to be.

"I'm sorry fifth-grade parents had to explain my sin to your kids. I've destroyed the very trust I tried so hard to gain with students and parents. I just don't know if I can ever forgive myself."

What is just as interesting as a sick woman sexually abusing a 11 year old boy is the outrage that the case caused from a different stand point.

In two years time, two different teachers where charged with sexual abuse of children. in both cases the children where black students- the perps were white teachers. A group formed, led by Rev. David Kennedy. They believe that these cases are reflective of a abusive pattern against black students. You can read a little more about that here.

I personally don't feel this is a race issue- as much as it is a morals issue. None of our teachers should be sexually abusing any of our students- and the color of skin doesn't make the crime less or more outrageous and unacceptable. From the most famous "teacher/student" sex case, to the ones we never hear about- there is no excuse. In every case a teacher had a role in the child's life- to teach them, to lead them, to help shape them into better people. Instead they opted to cause pain and suffering by taking advantage of them, both mentally and sexually.

Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously. When you are relying on the SO registries to monitors how safe your...

WTW Someone Please Help Us

There's so much to work with, I'm going to just hit as much as I can. Ashely Simpson decided to pick a fight at McDonald's. Betting millions that if the employee would just go and get the manager- the manager would just love her. Simpson's climbing on the counter and irate behavior where in typical White Trash Style. Great coverage at Stereogum. Tom Cruise has decidedly canned his sister for her inability to help him keep his mouth shut. Evidently he needs a real professional as his PR person- in order to keep him in line. It's just not right firing family because you're and idiot. Kate Hudson is suing someone because of photos of her in which she looks like a starving actress. She claims the images suggest she has a eating disorder- no Kate, it's not the images, it's the you. One should not sue because they have starved themselves to the point of it being noticeable in photos. Please stop by these other great sites to read more WHITE TRASH WEDNESDAY B...

$167.90

He received $167.90 to serve on the jury. It couldn't have been an easy case to listen to. Hearing of how a 13 year old was raped by a 38 year old man who had befriended the family, it'd be enough to make most people turn in repulsion. But the juror did what he was suppose to, and long with the 11 other people who sat by his side- he found the defendant guilty. Believing that the child, who had come from a broken home- a mother battling drugs and a father who wasn't there- deserved justice, the 12 people performed their moral, ethical and judicial duty and sentenced Gregory Bryant to 30 years in prison. One would think that Bruse Funkhouser had earned that $167.90. Perhaps it would cover a small portion of the income that he lost while serving his duty to the courts. Perhaps it would just give him a little extra change in his pocket. So, you might wonder what would cause Funkhouser to return the check to the court house... Members of a Pawnee County jury are upset a judge g...
