It's so hard to find a good real estate agent these days...

Nothing like inviting a sex offender in to your house, and finding out he's a sexual offender:
She was appalled even angry when she found out he was listed on the Megan’s Law Website. The agent, Richard Whitney, convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child. “I find it absolutely unacceptable that the state of CA allows registered sex offenders and known predators unquestioned access into our homes,” said Reece.

Agents do have easy access, through lockboxes found on just about every home for sale.

In the state's decision to pull Mr. Whitney's license, they cite his ability to open lockboxes, which contain the keys to the homes.
If you knew that the realtor coming to your home this evening to show your house was a registered sex offender you might have a second thought about letting that person in you home, in your' child's room.

The department of real estate refused to go on camera to discuss this topic. They said they have to follow state regulations. If a person meets certain criteria, including that it's been at least two years since their last criminal conviction and they successfully completed parole, they can apply for a license. ”There is a very high recidivism rate with people convicted of a sexual crime,” said Beth Hassett of Victim’s Advocates.

Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida.
