A Must Have

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend who had lost power. And that's when it hit me- some people still don't know about one of the best little products in the world. An inverter.

Imagine this, it's 10 degrees outside, and you haven't had power for days. If you have a gas generator- it's no good to you anymore because there are no gas stations open. If you don't- well you don't have one, so you don't care about those who do have one. You just want a freaking cup of hot coffee before you lose your mind and start burning furniture as a heating source to boil water. Not the prettiest picture in the world. Except, in the mist of the cold- you remember that little gadget Lilo told you to buy, and you start thanking me like crazy for telling you about it. Cause, now you can: charge your laptop, make a pot of coffee, put a movie on for the kids, charge your cell phone, and trust me- the list goes on and on.

This is an inverter, an 150W Auto Power Inverter to be exact. And, for around $60 on sale- or cheaper if you find a less popular brand, you can get one of them now, and then whether you are on on a road trip, or in the middle of black out, you can plug the inverter into your car's cigarette lighter outlet and have a little electricity.

From Targus:
Product Details
The Targus 150W Auto Power Mobile Inverter is designed to simultaneously power and charge your notebook, mobile phone, iPod®, digital camera and other CE devices through the cigarette lighter outlet in your car. The inverter includes a 20” power cord with a cigarette lighter adapter and two AC outlets and can provide up to 150 watts of power. The mobile inverter includes built-in surge protection and features an automatic shut-off to preserve battery life and prevent damage. Its compact design allows it to lay flat on virtually any surface in your car. This is an ideal power source in your car, boat or RV.

I know, I'm not usually into the idea of promoting products, but I'll tell you what- this one is worth the money. And, I can't say this enough- EVERYONE with a vehicle should have at least one.

I know that for a little more money, and depending on the product- sometimes a little less money you can get adaptors for a lot of electronics for your auto. But this thing is better- because it allows you to plug in anything with a normal household plug.

You'll thank me later. I promise.

Verifiable or provable by means of observation or experiment: empirical laws. Guided by practical experience and not theory, especially in medicine Kennedy hate crimes rider may doom Hatch's sex offender bill By Robert Gehrke The Salt Lake Tribune WASHINGTON - A fight over federal hate crimes legislation could torpedo Sen. Orrin Hatch's push to strengthen the nation's sex-offender registries and clamp down on sex crimes. The Senate Judiciary Committee gave quick, unanimous approval to Hatch's bill Thursday, clearing its way for consideration by the full Senate. But Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said he plans to try to attach language to a bill that would require tougher sentences, provide federal assistance and offer grants to prosecute hate crimes - those motivated by hatred for a race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously. When you are relying on the SO registries to monitors how safe your...
