America's Most Wanted has profiled David John Sprong Jr., and actively been reviewing his case in hopes of capturing this sexual predator.
Sprong was wanted for Lascivious Conduct With A Child Under 14, and Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution in California, after he fled while out on a $1 million bond in Sacramento, Calif.
Sprong is a convicted sex offender, having been convicted of rape and lewd and lascivious acts, and is currently charged in connection with several molestation cases involving young girls. He was facing a life sentence, if he was convicted under California law as a habitual sex offender. So he took his family and ran.
After skipping out on his trial, he lived in Houston, Texas and Spring, Texas before he made his way to Humble, Texas in November 2006. When AMW aired his story on the 20th of this month, they were able to talk to many of the people he had befriended while in Humble, where he had just barely eluded capture when he took off with his girlfriend and their daughter. Police believe that Sprong may have had at least two victims in Humble before he left.
But, thanks to AMW and tips from viewers of the show, there is good news to report as of yesterday:
Not only is Sprong now behind bars, but with this capture, AMW is now able to claim 918 successful captures of wanted criminals.
For updates on this case as more information on the capture is released, please see AMW: David Sprong. And, hopefully I'll have more updates here later on too.
UPDATE:
AMW is reporting that they have an exclusive jailhouse interview with this predator, along with an interview of Clara Lenette 'Lyn' Roadear, Sprong's girlfriend who has been with him while he's been on the run. They will be airing the update on this story on Feb 24, 2007, at 9 PM on Fox. They will also be detailing this amazing capture, and the tips that lead to it.
For a sneak preview of just some of what will be aired, see their updated post, and just as a teaser, I have to share one of the finer points:

It appears Sprong left Texas after the first airing of the case on “America’s Most Wanted.” Since January, Sprong has been featured two more times.
Last Monday, authorities found an Infiniti SUV abandoned at a bar in Hammond, Louisiana. After some digging, authorities were able to track the vehicle back to Sprong.
According to the FBI, investigators arrested Sprong at the A to Z Auto Auction in Louisiana, where he was working as a mechanic under the alias Thomas Turner for the past three weeks. His longtime girlfriend and their 10-year-old daughter were also taken into custody. The child is now in the hands of Child Protective Services.

In fact, Sprong tells us he relied on America's Most Wanted for information for as long as he'd been running: he would watch on Saturdays -- and check AMW.com regularly -- to see what law enforcement officials knew about him, whether he'd been spotted, and what clues had been gathered about his whereabouts.
And after seeing himself in late January, he grabbed is girlfriend, Clara Lenette 'Lyn' Roadear, and their daughter, Justine, and jumped into their green Infiniti SUV. Sprong told us they didn't know where they were going, but they knew they needed to get out of town -- fast.
