How do you know when you need a new judge?
For starters, when he is Judge Howsare from Bedford Pa.
As you may recall, I've written a few times about the judge, and the pervert who recently sat in his courtroom on trial for almost 400 counts of sexual abuse of a child. The perv, Richard Crawford was convicted, the state said he was a sexually violent predator, but the judge wasn't sure so he postponed the sentencing (it's already been almost 3 months since the conviction).

For those of you aware of it, I'll just take half a second reminding you that 98 of the charges against this slime bag carried mandatory 5 year minimum sentences.
Although, in all fairness- Crawford and his defense counsel seem to be the only ones who can't really complain about the sentence, since it benefits them. Yet, they are complaining about it. And the verdict. So they are planning to appeal. Because that is what scum does- they use the system to their favor, waste tax players money to try to slime their way out of charges, and then once convicted and (finally in this case) sentenced... they appeal. Assholes.
I'm happy for Tom that he thinks his client is innocent. But a jury believed differently, as does the young woman who suffered through years of abuse at his hands as a child.
As for the impact to Crawford's children- well yes there is that to think about. Clearly they were robbed in this sentencing. After all, 25 years isn't enough to ensure the safety of their children from this monster. Surely the judge should have taken that into account. But, he didn't.
Personally, I feel Crawford and Crawford should be kissing this judges ass for being such a shame to the people of Bedford... after all, he single handily knocked off years of a sentence that should have kept Crawford in jail for the rest of his life, and that's after he openly mocked the state, and the court itself by his apparent lack of wanting to sentence Crawford to begin with (not to mention his questionable courtroom rulings).
And to be completely frank- I'd like nothing more than to have Howsare step down (or be removed), the appeal laughed out of court, and Crawford to drop dead of a heart attack 15 minutes before his release (in 25 to 50 years).

Back to the update, it seems that the judge decided to get off his ass and do his job. However, as with everything else involving this judge and this case, Judge Daniel L. Howsare couldn't manage to do his job fully yet again. Rather than giving the max, and assuring the safety of the public by keeping Crawford behind bars for the rest of his life, Howsare decided to go with a sentence of 25 to 50 years. Now I know, that still sounds like a long time. But, let's say he does 25 years. He wouldn't even be 65 when he gets out. Still young enough to find another victim- and, now this is the really important part so perhaps someone should suggest that Howsare read it--- 25 years is not justice. It is not close. Howsare has not only denied the state the right to see their law carried out as it was intended, with the minimum sentence per offense, but he has denied the victim the full amount of justice she was due, and he has denied Crawford the right to be sentenced in accordance with the ideals behind the sentencing guidelines as set out by the PA legislators.Courtroom No. 1

Centredaily- Defense attorney Tom Crawford, who is not related to the defendant, told Howsare his client didn't have a criminal record and wasn't a flight risk. He also asked the judge to consider impact the sentence would have on the defendant's children, a 16-year-old stepson and 4-year-old son.
Tom Crawford questioned why the victim took so long to report the abuse and faulted her for not being specific about when the abuse took place.
"I understand there was no certain date," Howsare said. "But I think there's sufficient evidence to support what the jury found."
The defense said it would appeal.
"There are significant issues for appeal and I personally feel that he's innocent," Tom Crawford said.
