Just a side note before I get into this case...
A sexual interaction between a man and a child under 12 is not just "sex", it's rape. The child can not consent, and therefore the man has no legal right to engage in the activity- thus making it RAPE. It bugs the hell out of me when a reporter belittles the crime by merely referring to it as "sex".
Now, onto the case:
(wonderfully worded story by By Susan Spencer-Wendel, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer)
Domingo Ortiz, 44, alleged child rapist, showed up to appointments with his bondsman, and his lawyer. But, then decided to skip out on the most important appointment- his court date.
Go figure.
Um... if he's out and about? Seriously? Because he's been "out and about" the entire time he's been released on bail. How stupid are these people? They think he's only a danger now that he failed to show up to court, but he wasn't a risk before the court date? Was that some sort of magical date , was he under some special spell that he was only a danger if he failed to show up to court???
Listen, this is really really simple- as long as they are OUT of jail, whether it's because they are out on bond, out on probation, out on parole, or just "out" period... these people are a danger. If you want to limit the danger they pose... KEEP them in jail.

Now, onto the case:
A man facing up to life in prison for allegedly having sex with a child under 12 posted a $300,000 bond and left jail earlier this year.

Domingo Ortiz, 44, alleged child rapist, showed up to appointments with his bondsman, and his lawyer. But, then decided to skip out on the most important appointment- his court date.
Go figure.
His bondswoman, Alma Mariles, said Wednesday she hasn't heard of a person jumping a bond so steep. Ortiz had always reported regularly and gave no indication he might disappear, she said.
The firm Mariles works for, Gun Club Bail Bonds, would end up owing the money to the court if Ortiz is not found. Therefore, she's offering a $10,000 reward for information.
"He needs to come back and face what he did," Mariles said.
According to court records, Ortiz posted two homes he owned as collateral for the high bond.
Detective Allyson Farrington of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, who investigated the case, said she was surprised when Ortiz got a bond at all. "The scary thing is he already harmed one person. If he is out-and-about that could very easily happen again."
