What's On AMW

This Saturday, September 1, 2007, AMERICA’S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK will be airing the following cases on your local Fox station. You can also visit their website, AMW.com for more information on these and other cases.

Goose Creek, South Carolina…DAN HIERS…Ever since he was profiled on AMW in March 2005, tips on the whereabouts of accused murderer and child molester Dan Hiers, have been pouring in. This ex-cop is on the U.S. Marshals' 15 Most Wanted List and is one of AMW's Dirty Dozen. Hiers is accused of murdering his wife, Ludimila, in March, 2005 and of molesting a young girl months earlier.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma…KENNETH COFER…AMW tipsters have provided several clues that investigators followed up on, but nothing concrete has panned out in the search for Kenneth Cofer. Cofer is accused of killing Larry Buchanan in an argument over patriotism after the 9/11 attacks.

Metairie, Louisiana…EDMUNDO CERDA-ANIMA…A nationwide manhunt is underway for murder suspect Edmundo Cerda-Anima. Authorities in Louisiana say Cerda-Anima was in the area to make some money helping to fix the damage of Hurricane Katrina. But police say he's inflicted far more damage on the community than he'll ever be able to fix.

Queens, New York…MAXIE DACOSTA…A suspected killer is on the loose after wriggling out of handcuffs and jumping from the third story of a New York police precinct. An all-out manhunt is underway for Maxie Dacosta, a 27-year-old Queens man who is being questioned in connection with a murder back in July.

Phoenix, Arizona…William “Bubba” Ray Plemons…Police say William Plemons has a reputation as a real romantic, at least until you get to know him better. Plemons carried on a series of relationships from behind bars, but according to authorities, he was more interested in money than love. When one woman threatened to unravel his alleged scheme, police say Plemons turned from Casanova into killer.

Tustin, California…JUAN PALACIOS…It's hard to believe that anyone would kill over a dispute concerning sixty bucks, but Tustin, California police say that's exactly what Juan Palacios did on January 5, 2003. Witnesses to the argument say that Palacios actually got his money, but cops say it was his wounded pride that led him to kill his co-worker, Mario Santomaria.

Pleasanton, California…DANIEL ANDREAS SAN DIEGO…The FBI says Daniel San Diego is a cold-blooded terrorist, accused of savagely bombing the offices of medical researchers in California. His distinctive tattoos may be the clue that leads to his capture, and cops need your tips to bring him in before he detonates another one of his deadly weapons.

Verifiable or provable by means of observation or experiment: empirical laws. Guided by practical experience and not theory, especially in medicine Kennedy hate crimes rider may doom Hatch's sex offender bill By Robert Gehrke The Salt Lake Tribune WASHINGTON - A fight over federal hate crimes legislation could torpedo Sen. Orrin Hatch's push to strengthen the nation's sex-offender registries and clamp down on sex crimes. The Senate Judiciary Committee gave quick, unanimous approval to Hatch's bill Thursday, clearing its way for consideration by the full Senate. But Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said he plans to try to attach language to a bill that would require tougher sentences, provide federal assistance and offer grants to prosecute hate crimes - those motivated by hatred for a race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously. When you are relying on the SO registries to monitors how safe your...
