As mentioned before, a jury found the mother of Kelsey Briggs guilty of enabling child abuse. The jury recommended a 27 year sentence for Raye Dawn Porter / Smith. Raye Dawn Smith was sentenced on Monday to 27 years in prison for enabling child abuse, which resulted in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Kelsey Briggs died from a blow to the stomach in October 2005, and a jury convicted her stepfather, Michael Porter, of enabling child abuse by injury.
