This week on AMW

Still on hiatus, but I did want to share highlights from this weekends upcoming America's Most Wanted with you all.

Anthony Artrip: Shortly after eluding police in Asheville, N.C., cops say that escaped fugitive Anthony Artrip robbed a bank in Mt. Airy. According to authorities, Artrip passed a note claiming he had a gun and emptied the teller tills. Now, U.S. Marshals have added Artrip to their 15 Most Wanted list, and they are more determined than ever to get their hands on him. Tune in this week to help us track him down.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=46301

Anibal Mustelier: Agents believe Mustelier may have returned to Florida to retrieve $5 million worth of jewelry stashed away after the bank robbery at a SunTrust Bank five years ago. On the show this weekend, we’ll give you the details on where he might be now. Tune in, and help us nab him.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=25376

Whitey Bulger: The FBI has just released a possible photograph and new video of Whitey Bulger and his girlfriend Catherine Greig. The picture and short video were taken in Taormina, Sicily, Italy on April 10, 2007. Now, authorities are asking for your help to identify the couple shown and to determine whether or not the man and woman pictured are in fact the fugitive mobster and his girlfriend. On AMW.com, we have the video; check it out and help us close the case.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=23567

Madeleine McCann: Although Kate and Gerry McCann were able to return to Britain with their twin children, they have officially been named suspects in the disappearance of their daughter. In a press conference, Gerry stated, "Portuguese law prohibits us from commenting further on the police investigation," but also added that they were returning to Britain with "the full agreement of the Portuguese authorities and police." The investigation into Madeleine's disappearance is ongoing. This weekend we’ll have an update.http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=45127

William Greer:
When America's Most Wanted aired William Greer's story on July 14, tips flowed in like the Mississippi River. Tip after tip said the fugitive was in New Orleans, so cops drove to the French Quarter -- along with the AMW team. We’ve been on his tail since then, hopefully Saturday night his run will come to an end.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=43686

Kenneth Freeman: One of AMW's most infamous bad guys, Ken Freeman, has agreed to be extradited back to the United States. Final approval for the extradition still needs to be granted by officials in Hong Kong. Authorities say that the process could take up to six weeks. Freeman was arrested by police in China after he fled the United States in 2006, facing charges in Washington state on three counts of child rape and jumping bail while also facing federal charges of producing and distributing child pornography. Freeman's maximum sentence would be life imprisonment if convicted. This weekend, we’ll have all the details.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=41919

Taizhi Cui:
In October 2006, Los Angeles' Korean community was shocked by a triple murder that happened in their own backyard. Cops say the deaths were the work of a jilted lover hell-bent on getting revenge on an ex-girlfriend and her new paramour. However, authorities are still looking for the man they say pulled the trigger ... Taizhi Cui. On AMW.com, we have photos of Taizhi, check it out and help us bring him down.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=44720

Richard Ochoa: Apparently, Richard Ochoa is a real nice guy. He's married, has a kid, and nobody has a bad word to say about him. Until police discovered that he was allegedly involved in the business of running drugs all over Michigan. Now, cops want to bring him in before somebody else falls for his nice-guy act. Ochoa’s a big guy, and should be easy to spot. This weekend, we’ll give you all the information you need to catch him.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=44291

Carey Price: Police have been searching for alleged drunk driver Carey Price after he didn't show up for a court appearance. Price is one of two fugitives who still remain on the run from a Feburary 2005 airing of AMW -- the other eight are all behind bars. It's time all ten fugitives from this episode are put where they belong. This week we’ll give you the chance to bring them down.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=30262

Javier Mendoza: In the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 in Kansas City, Kan. Maria Guzman was riding in a car with three friends when she was shot and killed when the car she was in exchanged gunfire. This stemmed from an earlier incident, where a girl lost a fight with another girl and was seeking revenge. Check the full story out in our My Story section of AMW.com. Then tune in, and help us bring Javier Mendoza to justice.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=47136

Jabalee Murders:
Ron and Christine Jabalee were savagely murdered in their own home last October, and their children are desperate for clues that will reveal why someone destroyed the foundation of their family by killing their beloved parents. Now, the local Crimestoppers organization is offering a $160,000 reward to shake loose the facts of this tragic crime.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=47320

Tolbert Walls: After being found unfit to stand trial for armed robbery, cops say Tolbert Walls was sent to a mental health facility outside Chicago, Ill. He was supposed to get well and have a trial, but according to police, Walls -- who was convicted of murder more than a decade ago -- proved sane enough to obtain a visitor's pass and make a break for freedom.http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=48423

Disney Boy Hero: Disney calls its resorts “The Happiest Place on Earth.” But this summer, a dream vacation at Disney's Swan Resort turned into a nightmare for one young girl. The story is a good reminder that even well-secured public places with good reputations can pose dangers for children. But even more than that, this story is a reminder that heroes come in all shapes and sizes – and ages. Police say the girl was approached and lured away by a man named William Bishop. But today, Bishop is behind bars, thanks to an alert and street smart eleven-year-old boy named David. We’ll give you the rundown this weekend.http://www.amw.com/features/feature_story_detail.cfm?id=2164

You can catch AMW on Saturday at 9pm on your local Fox station, or stop by their website, www.amw.com

Guided by practical experience and not theory, especially in medicine Kennedy hate crimes rider may doom Hatch's sex offender bill By Robert Gehrke The Salt Lake Tribune WASHINGTON - A fight over federal hate crimes legislation could torpedo Sen. Orrin Hatch's push to strengthen the nation's sex-offender registries and clamp down on sex crimes. The Senate Judiciary Committee gave quick, unanimous approval to Hatch's bill Thursday, clearing its way for consideration by the full Senate. But Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said he plans to try to attach language to a bill that would require tougher sentences, provide federal assistance and offer grants to prosecute hate crimes - those motivated by hatred for a race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously. When you are relying on the SO registries to monitors how safe your...
