I've even discussed a case with a friend where a group of neighbors have opted to sue their neighbor who is currently allowing a sex offender to live with them, because his presence has made it harder to sell homes in the family oriented neighborhood.
Some people will argue that having a sex offender move in next door doesn't effect the value of your home. That they've served their time and should be welcomed back into society- even if their new home sits in the middle of the homes of a dozen kids.
Well, now when you hear how these sex offenders don't effect anything- you can say bullshit.

One study found that a sex offender within one-tenth of a mile of your home makes your house sell for about 17% less than comparable homes without a sex offender in the neighborhood. If a sex offender is within two-tenths or three-tenths of a mile from your home, expect a 9% to 10% lower sales price. A separate study found that homes within one-tenth of a mile of a sex offender only sold for 4% less than comparable homes.
