Mary Lou Makley

Mary Lou Makley got permission to take a 2 year old boy shopping after stopping ot visit his mother. Makley however, failed to get permission to blow her crack smoke into the child's face. Which, honestly- I can't imagine anyone giving permission for ever. But, then again I can't imagine giving permission to a crack head to be around one of my kids, let alone go somewhere with them.

Police say Makley had the mother's permission to take the boy shopping when she stopped at a friend's house in Aliquippa and smoked crack near the boy on May 13. Police say the boy's mother took him to the hospital when he later complained of stomach pains and his blood tested positive for cocaine.

Florida Sex Offender Registry

Reading the news today, I was taken back to see that the Florida Sex Offender registry was being criticized. Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. The issue that many are having with it now wouldn't be noticed by the occasional browser on the site. Which makes it even worse. A review of the FSR has found some rather unsettling statistics: The News-Press analyzed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database of 36,306 sex offenders and found: • 9,205 of them are incarcerated • 7,037 have run away or can't be found • 824 have been deported; and • 516 are dead. Of the 15,573 sex offenders listed as released and not on parole or probation, only 11,355 of those actually live in Florida. Sex offender registries can only be usefully, and only fully do what they where designed to do when they are updated, maintained and monitored continuously.
