Bad Girls

As you know, the last few weekends America's Most Wanted was preempted for some sort of sporting event (which yours truly isn't into), but this week they are back in full swing with a special presentation of some very bad women. Giovanni Ruanova: Federal agents say Giovanni Ruanova and his stripper girlfriend are in love ... with drugs and money. The couple discovered common ground as alleged co-workers in a drug organization worth millions of dollars. The DEA believes Ruanova is a big-time drug runner, and that his sidekick was along for a wild ride. Annette Sanchez: Cops say Annette Sanchez was willing to do anything for her drug-running boyfriend -- including lie to the police. When cops found $9000 in her purse, she said it was money she'd earned by stripping, according to authorities. Detroit cops say they might've even bought her story... except for the $1.8 million of dirty money hidden in the trunk of her car. Ponytail Bandit : The FBI is searching for a you

Happy Halloween

Given the spooky and bizarre nature of the holiday, I felt it would be proper to bring you a few creepy stories from the CCB. Black and missing has the frightful turned delightful case of a missing woman who's been found alive and well. Over at Perverted Primates there's a old twist on Along Came A Spider. Bonnie's My Life Of Crime has a conviction and sentence update on the case of two children shot dead. Laura James has some genre news over at CLEWS (sorry for the rhyme!) Stephen is doing some interesting blogging while away at the crime festival. Crime Shadow News has some words on who ought to be planning a long stay in hell. Dreaming Demon is all over the case of Vincent Roy Margera , who plays "Don Vito" on MTV. Home Sweet Home shows that there is nothing spookier than a Couple Problems , and that these problems aren't just hanging around the house. MyCrimeSpace is presenting a new spin on a scary Halloween party. Psycho for Love gives new meaning to

Caught, 14 years later

A rapist who attacked and raped a mother of two was caught after DNA taken after the crime, was recently linked to him. A masked rapist was tracked down after 14 years when a relative gave a DNA sample in a completely unrelated case. Detectives reopened the investigation into the violent assault in Bridgwater, in Somerset, in 1993 when test results revealed a family connection to the attacker. More than 4,000 people related to the arrested man were traced and tested before detectives caught up with 42-year-old Geoffrey Godfrey. Godfrey, now 42, raped the 36-year-old married mother of two after he attacked her as she walked along a canal towpath. Although the rapist’s DNA was recovered from semen samples, Godfrey was not on any data-base. Full story

Canada has problems

A 2006 report showed that British Columbia has problems with dealing with child abuse. "Providers were unanimous in their view that program funding is insufficient to meet the needs for SAIP services," the 26-page review stated. The report said the program was a "critical element" of services related to child and youth mental health and "deserving of a more explicit focus." "There is a pervasive view among providers that the program has been neglected by government decision-makers over the past several years," the report stated Interesting read...

Matthew Clinton Bynum

Matthew Clinton Bynum, 23 is currently being sought by police for allegedly luring young girls he met online to meet with him, and then sexually assaulting them. The warrant includes 8 felonies: five counts of sexual assault on children pattern of abuse, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of Internet luring. While police have not said how many victims are involved, they did offer that it was "multiple cases" and provided other information on the suspect: But he did release some information about Bynum in hopes that residents will help authorities locate him. Bynum was last seen in the Denver area, where he was living, in mid-September, authorities said. He was driving a white, 2007 two-door Chevrolet sedan with Colorado license plate 817 OUZ. Anyone with information is asked to call Heffernan at 498-5171 Source

Its not abuse

Scumbag parents all over the US will be pleased to know that they can now shave their child's head and have their genitalia pierced, then claim it was done to "save the child" without having to face criminal punishment. Especially if they do it in Naples Florida, and are lucky enough to have the same dumb ass jury that a 39-year-old woman, whose name is being withheld to protect her daughter's identity, did. But, that lucky desision only works if you are the one ordering the piercing, not the piercer as Tammy Meredith (who did the piercing at the mothers request) was. A woman who had her 13-year-old daughter's genitalia pierced to make it uncomfortable for her to have sex was acquitted of aggravated child abuse on Thursday. The girl, now 16, had testified that her mother asked a friend in 2004 to shave the girl's head to make her unattractive to boys and later held her down for the piercing. A jury deliberated for about three hours before deciding the mother&#

Just sharing...

I've started something new, and wanted to share it with all of you. Given the special topic... I thought you might be interested. Perverted Primates , because some people are just subhuman.

Naked On the Beach

A man who was reported walking along side a child on a California beach was arrested after officers arrived on the scene. Which, under normal conditions would seem oddly over reactive. But, these weren't normal conditions. As it turns out the man was 31-year-old registered sex offender, Hubert Haraszewski . Oh, and he was naked, which is why he was reported to begin with. And, it gets worse: Rangers stopped the man, who told them he was the child's uncle, officials said. Child abuse detectives determined he had repeatedly molested the child, whose age and gender were not disclosed, officials said.

Crime Prevention Month

With Trick or Treat right around the corner, I though it was time to mention that America's Most Wanted has set up a great feature for Crime Prevention Month that includes tips on staying safe this holiday: This Halloween, safety-minded parents with young kids might find that besides traditional trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, there are several fun alternatives for children to engage in that help to keep them protected from the dangers of the streets. The AMW Safety Center helps to point you in the right direction. For more information, and other "stay safe" related posts, be sure to check out their AMW Safety Center. It's geared towards kids, and even has a few reminders for parents. The LAFD also has provided a quick list that you can go over with your child, and print off for future candy collection nights of horror. And, from everyone's favorite candy- check out the Safety Quiz at Hershey.

Fit for Trial...

State Supreme Court Judge ruled that an exconvict accused in the savage murder of a young woman is fit to stand trial, as he well should be. Williams, who served eight years for attempted murder, is accused of sneaking into the 23-year-old student's building the night of April 13 and forcing his way into her apartment. For about 19 hours, prosecutors said, Williams raped the woman on her futon bed, tied her up with computer cables and used a knife to slit her eyelids. Police said Williams forced her to swallow large doses of over-the-counter pain medicine as a sedative, which damaged her liver, and he inflicted burns by dousing her with bleach and scalding water in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence. Williams tried to burn the young woman alive before he left, prosecutors said. He was arrested a few days later.

Shocking ...

Actually it's not that shocking, it's sort of- well- the same old news we hear yesterday, just with different names. A 33-year-old high-school teacher was arrested after admitting that she had sex with a 16-year-old student, police said. Christina Butler, a ninth-grade teacher at Middleton High School, admitted to the relationship with the boy after a series of events Tuesday that began with a police stakeout targeting street crime at an apartment complex, police said.

Proof anyone can be stupid

Don't even get me started on how I feel on this one... Months after Catholic priest Alan Placa was accused of sexually molesting three children, Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani hired Placa, his longtime friend, to work in Giuliani's consulting firm. Although, you can be sure that this pretty much confirms I won't be voting for him... ever.

You Should Die In Jail

That might just be one of the most fitting comments ever ottered by a judge, and likely one of the truest also. A young girl who was molested by a trusted elderly family member sat in court with her parents Tuesday, listening as a New London judge sentenced 80-year-old James J. Nieto to 30 years in prison. “You should die in jail,” Judge Stuart M. Schimelman told Nieto after referencing “heartbreaking” evidence of damage to the girl and her sister. While the victim was set to give her impact statement, she opted out shortly before it was time, and her mother took her place instead, sharing the feelings that countless other parents have when they find their child has been terrorized by some sexual deviant: Their mother spoke on their behalf, giving free rein to the anger that had grown since she discovered Nieto, of New Rochelle, N.Y., molested her daughters during gatherings at a relative's home in Voluntown. She said Nieto had destroyed her children's trust. The children are r

Michigan Laws to Change?

It's at least a start : A House Republican proposal would make the registry retroactive to include some offenders who were convicted of crimes before 1995. That’s when the law creating a registry took effect. Republican lawmaker David Law of Oakland County’s Commerce Township is behind the plan. He says people convicted of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13 should be on the registry no matter when the offense happened. I couldn't agree more. And, personally-- I don't think that WHERE the offense took place should matter either. Now, if only the rest of the states would start making these changes.

Well... at least he wanted to stop

Most sexual offenders want the world to buy into a false sense of security when it comes to them having paid for their crime, and thus being "okay" to roam around in society once again. They want us to forget their past crimes, and naively accept that they are "safe". Most of them, but not all of them. There is a small, undisclosed number of offenders out there that are willing to admit that they can not be stopped- at least not if they are out in the free world, where a potential victim is around every corner. A convicted sex offender tried to castrate himself with a knife after apparently having an urge to offend again. After the 59-year-old Springfield man severed one of his testicles and flushed it down a toilet, he called a friend for help. Paramedics arrived and treated him for his injuries, and he was rushed to the hospital, the Springfield State Journal-Register reported. Police would not identify the man, but say he is expected to survive. The urges don&#

Kids do the darnest things...

I have to admit it... I got the biggest kick out of this story : Paulette Lynn Spears, 33, who lives in the Minnehaha area east of Vancouver, was arrested Saturday evening after she drove to a fire station and said she had a medical problem. Guided by her son's description of what he could see from the car, as well as by global positioning technology to track the phone calls, deputies arrived less than a minute later. Emergency dispatchers received a report of a four-door Nissan sedan being driven erratically four minutes before the first call from her son, sheriff's Sgt. Randon M. Walker said. "He said 'I don't know where we are, and Mom's not acting normal,"' Walker said. As the operator began asking the boy for landmarks and the direction the car was traveling, Walker said, Spears took the cellular telephone from the boy, told the dispatcher not to worry and hung up. The boy called back, and again his mother cut short the call, Walker said.

Calling it what it is

More than once, I've found myself dumbfounded by the news media's journalistic endeavor to "lessen the blow" of a story by sweetening it up with the exclusion of the correct terms. They'll gladly substitute "sexual relationship with a child under 13" for "raped a child under 13". A baby had deliberately become a "fetus". Someone died, when really they were murdered. I know, it's a play on words. And yet I have a problem with it. It not only dumbs down the story- but it makes it easier to swallow. We lose a bit of the nature of the crime, we become a little less sensitive to what really happened. And, with crime- that should never be the case. I wasn't going to comment on the David Copperfield rape allegations. Because, others already have - and they've done of good job of it. Really. I wasn't going to touch it. And then I read this line : "The cancellations came after FBI agents conducted searches in Las Vegas

I'm not a morning person

The 20 year old plead guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and simple assault, after having kicked a toddler and then squeezing his face hard enough to leave bruises on one occasion, and having punched the boy twice a few days later. The boy suffered from bleeding around the brain, and severe bruising on his face. But, Juan Arreola thought that he had a good reason for his abusive actions when he entered his plea and responded to the judges questioning with ""I was working till midnight. I'm not a morning person." The judge, Judge F.P. Kimberly McFadden, had merely asked if that was how he treated all 2 year olds. Needless to say, she wasn't a bit happy with his excuse. McFadden said she was almost speechless. "You're going to look at me straight in the face and say 'I'm not a morning person,'?" she asked. The judge ordered Arreola to undergo psychological and psychiatric evaluations and set sentencing fo

Sympathy...

I don't know about you, but somehow I'm lacking sympathy for poor Burt and his family. It seems that while the 16 year old spent a year in juvi, he spent his days talking to his family about twice a day, everyday. Now the family is stuck with a $6,000 phone bill, and want pity or something. "It was something that I needed, to be able to talk to my family, to be able to get through my day-to-day life there," Burt said. (1) Yes, jail is difficult- it's an entire society that most of us know nothing about, and juvenile jail is not much easier than "big people" jail. And, of course, Burt's story pulls on the strings of any parent who may have a way ward parent. Burt Sharpe had been in the Scioto prison in Delaware County about a month when a boy he shared a cell with shoved him into a wall and punched him in the chin. That was the first attack in a series: A boy socked him after losing a chess game. Another boy cuffed him after a one-on-one basketball ga

It's because he's black.

At least that is what Donald Edward Lynch would like you to believe about his run in with the law. He'd also like you to believe that just because no child has stood up in the last four years pointing a finger at him, that the charges against him must be wrong. Personally, I'm not believing either line he's trying to sell.. and with the charges he's racked up- 11 counts of rape of a child, 38 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of aggravated sexual battery, I'm thinking you might not buy it either. Alleged child molester Donald Edward Lynch is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio for an identity hearing. Lynch, 66, was taken into custody early Saturday morning after he was spotted by Mexican state police about 20 miles from Brownsville in El Mesquital. He is one of the FBI’s and “America’s Most Wanted” fugitives.

AMW Updates

A few quick updates from America's Most Wanted: First, AMW is announcing the return of Freeman to US soil. Accused child rapist Kenneth John Freeman, described by the U.S. Marshals as the 'King of the Child Exploitation Suspects', returned to the United States today, escorted by senior law enforcement officials from the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). There will be exclusive video of this on the AMW website in the morning. Another point of interest is a new feature currently being offered by AMW, which will be showcasing some Real Monsters for the holiday season: Every October, people all over America dress up like monsters and other things that go bump in the night. And while a good scare can be fun, we at AMW know that real-life monsters exist out there. All this month on AMW.com, our producers will tell you about the scariest fugitives they've ever profiled. But that's not all, we want to hear from you too! So log on to AMW.co

Senate Bill 10

The following is an invitation to a rally. The following links will take you to a website that is holding a counter rally, for those who support SB 10. www.waspohio.org www.myspace.com/waspnest The rally is being formed in order to counter a rally being held by sexual offenders in Ohio who are fighting against Ohio Bill 10 , which will make significant changes to the SOR laws, For a shortened list of the changes, please see this page - http://www.lbo.state.oh.us /fiscal/fiscalnotes/127ga /SB0010HR.htm As mentioned this rally is being held to counter a rally by sexual offenders which is being planned to demonstrate against Senate Bill 10. Without a name

He was given a proper funeral, and over a hundred people showed up to mourn the little boy. There were flowers, teddy bears, balloons and tears offered in a display of grief for the toddler. The eulogy given by the reverend touched everyone in attendance. The only thing that was missing- was the very thing that made the occasion even more somber... there was no name to etch into his tombstone. The little boy, whose body was never claimed had been found dead two years early. The unidentified boy, believed to be 3 or 4, was laid to rest in a section of Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton known as "Holy Innocence," among the remains of 200 other children who died too soon. His gravestone says simply: "Son Unknown -- But Not Forgotten Oct. 8, 2005." It was on that date that Ted Bruder of Bolingbrook found the child's decomposed remains while walking his dog, Buddy, near Route 59 and I-88 in a wooded area between Naperville and Warrenville. Bruder knelt by the gravesite M

AMW this week

So I lied a little, there is really no America's Most Wanted this week, but that's no reason to skip out on checking in on what has been going on over at the AMW website , where there are active case updates, past cases and new information every day. I know, if only there was a way to keep up to date on the latest happenings there, huh? Well, as of today- there is. The new AMW widget. Feel free to grab your own.

Just one voice?

Often we find ourselves in a position where we don't agree with the way things are, but we feel powerless to do anything about it. Take for instance, a reader from here. She wrote a while back, concerned about a sex offender who was making visits to her children's school. She'd complained to the school, voiced her concerns to anyone who would listen- but yet nothing seemed to be working. She began writing letters, much like this one: I really hate to be writing this letter, but for the second time this year, we have run into the same register sex offender during an inside school function. The first time was this spring during our Elementary's Fun Fair. We immediately notified a police officer - who was aware of his presence, and told us he was a free man. The next day I was on the phone with the sheriff's office and e-mailed every one of our legislators. Wednesday night at the middle school choir concert, my daughter and a few of her friends noticed a man starin

Fake Crimes vs Real Murders

His books were all based on a rather morbid level of grossness, but that's the norm for most crime fiction. Where normal ends and shock begins is when life starts to imitate art... and the gruesome details jump from the page of a book into the apartment of an author. An aspiring horror novelist was arrested after police discovered his girlfriend's torso in his closet, a leg in the refrigerator and bones in a cereal box, the city prosecutor's spokesman said Thursday. Nearby they found the draft of a novel titled "Cannibalistic Instincts," said the official, who spoke on customary condition of anonymity. I hate to say it, but it gets worse.... via Fox News.

When did parents get stupid?

I'm not all that old. Oldish, almost. But not old. Still young enough that while growing up, my father had a cell phone. But old enough that it was really called a car phone, and not a cell phone- and it was almost as big as the car itself. Still, that's not OLD. It's not been that long since I was a kid myself. And yet, every day I find myself in this odd position of wondering just when it was that parents generally became stupid. Not "too lazy to interact with their children", not "too involved in work to spend time teaching their kids"- but literally- stupid, horrible parents. I know it started sometime prior to my time as a kid- although it wasn't on the grand scale that it is now. Just look at some of the quality parents we seem to be producing: Mother Bought Guns for Pennsylvania Boy Charged With School Plot Seriously, buying a troubled teen guns? And, as if we needed more contestants for stupid/bad parent of the year, we have Nicholas and Lola

I rarely do this....

But, I'm going to mix politics with profanity tonight. I voted for Bush. Twice. I have never regretted that, been annoyed about it a few times- but never regretted it. Except for the last few days, when I've been left with foul words in my mind, and more than a bit of anger in my body. So, this is what it has come to, me reading this ---> Father of Murdered Girl Questions Bush's Support to Halt Killer's Execution and being left with nothing to say, other than: Fuck Bush. I'm tired of standing behind someone who would close his eyes to millions of criminals and then plead for our congress to give them a path "getting away with breaking the law". But... this is more than being tired of someone. This is being down right pissed. Two girls were RAPED, SODOMISED, and MURDERED. He was caught, convicted and sentenced to death. But, Bush wants to fight that conviction. Not because an illegals life is worth more than a child's life, but because a rapists lif

Police officer gets off, and then does it legally too.

Someone tell me what the purpose of sentencing someone to 45 years is, if you are going to be a moron and suspend the sentence two seconds later. Seriously, explain it to me. And- explain how this "sentence" including the tossing away of the sentence can be anywhere close to proper, when the perp is a former police officer, who committed his crimes while he was still a police officer- and whose crimes were against children and sexually motivated : Randolph D. Smith, 60, pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of indecent liberties with children, getting a 45-year sentence - all of it suspended. All the incidents occurred while Smith was a sworn police officer. "At least it's a start to ruining his life," said one of the victims, now 39, who was 13 at the time of the first incident in 1982. "At least it's a start to holding him accountable. He ruined his own life by choosing to lead that lifestyle." He said he believes Smith has victimized other adole

Police Net 41

Forty one child pornography suspects that is. Most of the arrested suspects were members of social networks used by teens, including Myspace and Facebook. Here is a link from NJ gov describing the operation . (Story quoted below linked at end of post) The investigation, dubbed Operation Silent Shield, encompassed 15 of New Jersey's 21 counties and numerous law enforcement agencies. The arrests began 10 days ago and continued through Thursday, state police said. The 41 people, who range in age from 14 to 71, were charged with child pornography possession and distribution and face 18 months to 10 years in jail. They have jobs ranging from elevator repairman to car salesman to security guard to landscaper to deli owner to auto mechanic. A Woodbridge man who was arrested was a referee for girls high school volleyball, state police said. No one has been charged with creating the images and videos, though state Attorney General Anne Milgram said the investigation is continuing. She said

Man at Center of Nevada Child Pornography Case Speaks Exclusively with America’s Most Wanted Interview Clips Available Online at AMW Website; Darrin Tuck Claims Innocence (October 1, 2007) – When Darrin Tuck gave Nevada police a videotape containing child pornography images, it sparked an investigation that has led to a nationwide manhunt for an accused child predator—and to Tuck’s own arrest. Though Tuck claims to have found the tape in the desert shortly before turning it in, authorities say he had it in his possession for as long as five months, and even showed it to other people. In an exclusive interview with America’s Most Wanted Tuck insists he viewed only a brief segment of the tape, and it made him “sick to [his] stomach.” He also claims he didn’t show it to anyone else and quickly handed it over to the police. Clips from the interview are available for viewing on the America’s Most Wanted website, www.amw.com . Tuck says in the interview that when he r
