Is that your poker face?

(side note, I've previously written about this case, however I've borrowed from both prior posts, in order to give a more well rounded single post here--- previous posts: letters-from-myspace.html nbc-trades-to-catch-predator-in-for-new.html ) In November of 1995, a then barely known Iranian born California resident was convicted for violations of California penal codes 243.4 D and 647.6. Those charges amount to: Penal Code 243.4 D --- (d) Any person who, for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse, causes another, against that person's will while that person is unlawfully restrained either by the accused or an accomplice, or is institutionalized for medical treatment and is seriously disabled or medically incapacitated, to masturbate or touch an intimate part of either of those persons or a third person, is guilty of sexual battery. A violation of this subdivision is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year, and

Letters from Myspace

I told you before about how NBC has swapped catching predators for gambling with them , so the fact that Shahram (Shawn) "Sheiky" Sheikhan is a convicted sex offender should be no surprise. Now, to be fair his 1995 conviction didn't land him on a public notification system... but it did almost get him deported. <--pdf of deportation from Nevada Courts, Evidence Finding here , More Legal Docs here -- and it's been written about by enough media outlets that NBC can't claim they didn't know. But that's not my point. Cause we've already talked about that. Instead, I have yet another complaint... You see, because he has a MySpace account , I thought it in the best interest to notify MySpace that he had a sexually related conviction for crimes against a minor. So, I reported his page, and sent along a good half dozen related links as evidence of his conviction. And they responded... from admin@myspace.com reply-to admin@myspace.com, to lilo@los

Sex Offenders have low rate of re offending

Every time I turn around I have to hear someone insisting that the stats of sexual offenders re offending is so low. Not just low. But SO low. So low in fact- that it's just CRAZY that the public wants to justify horrid things like sex offender registries. The public is just mean for not letting these poor sex offenders serve their slap on the wrists sentences and then go freely on their way, back into our neighborhoods without as much as a blink. I'd defend my position that these people flailing these claims around are wrong by giving actual stats from long term studies... but I've done that before. I could defend the cause by clearly explaining that sexual offenders of the 'pedophile' kind are known to have an average of 115 victims PRIOR to getting caught the first time and therefore are even less likely to get caught the second time. I could even defend the SOR by pointing out that studies only catch the ones that are caught and convicted... and therefore they c

Wanted ads....

I always wanted to get the chance to write one of those 'wanted' ads for the newspaper. You know the kind where someone is seeking someone else. Personally- I think I'd be rather good at it. I know, you're not sure just how well I'd handle the position- are you? Well, here... I'll give you a glimpse of just how good I'd be: Well trained, devoted US Marshals desperately seeking sicko sexual predator for long term prison sentence. Perfer Louisville area, but willing to travel. Must be around five feet six inches tall and weigh about 180 pounds, African American, with black hair and brown eyes, and answer to the name "David P. Wheatly". On the edge of our seats waiting to meet. Call 502- 574-LMPD. I know, you're amazed at my way with words aren't you? Anyhow, since I doubt I'll be getting that job helping people write wanted ads for the personals... I suppose I'll stick to doing what I always do- sharing the news. The U.S. Marshals

Missing...

Usually you get all the headlines for America's Most Wanted's upcoming episodes in one single post, but one of the cases didn't make it to my first post, and after hearing a little about it- I wanted to make sure that I gave it some attention. It's an all to common story of a broken marriage with less than amicable relationships- that turned into a mystery when three members of the family disappeared. Ruby Santiago was happily married until she joined the military and her husband Victorio became upset with the lack of time she spent with the family- which included her two sons: Noel and Daniel. As the marriage began to deteriorate, domestic violence began increasing and Ruby ultimately filed for a temporary restraining order against Victorio. That's when things got worse: Cops say that Victorio went to talk to his wife about the restraining order and ask for forgiveness. Cops say he scattered rose petals all over the ground inside the house in an attempt to charm hi

America's Most Wanted, Show Highlights

Once again it's time for the highlights from this Saturday's episode of America's Most Wanted- which airs on your local Fox station starting at 9pm. Be sure to tune it. Jimmy Trindade: "Jimmy T" Trindade was a seasoned sportsman and an avid boater, but he hasn't been seen since leaving the Bahamas for Florida in 2006 at the helm of a 38' speed boat. The boat was found 11 hours after his departure, and his family, his friends, the FBI, and now Immigration and Customs Enforcement are trying to figure out what happened. http://www.amw.com/missing_persons/brief.cfm?id=41321 Roy Hyatt: Cops say Roy Stephen Hyatt is a convicted sex offender on the run who still has an appetite for children. Police are looking for him on charges of downloading, possessing, and possibly distributing child pornography. http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=44961 Dionne Garcia: After several years of hard work, the Chicago FBI's Joint Task Force on Gangs was able to indict 5

Things I never thought I'd read...

I'm browsing the news today, and I've noticed an interesting trend- a series of articles that honestly, I never could have imagined reading. It started with the school teacher Scott Porter - class subject is important here, ANGER MANAGEMENT- who began messing around with a student, and for some unknown reason put the kid in a head lock, told him to 'tap out' or else 'something gets broke' and then... wait for it... broke the kid's finger. The kid claims the finger was broken AFTER he tapped out. Then there was the bad employee who was afraid she was losing her job after seeing an add in the employment section of the newspaper for a job similar to hers and with a contact number that she knew was her bosses. Marie Lupe Cooley decided that if she was going to get canned, she had every right to make some trouble first. So, police say, she went to the architectural office where she works late Sunday night and erased 7 years' worth of drawings and blueprin

James Allen Selby

James Allen Selby is buried at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Oklahoma, with full military honors, having served in the gulf war and dying via suicide in October 2004. But there are some that would like you to consider whether Selby should have the right to be buried in what many believe is a cemetery for those deserving nothing short of honor and respect. Selby lies 'in peace' along side soldier who died while serving our country, or who have died after serving our country. The rest of us are prompted to decide whether just wearing a uniform should ensure one's right to being buried with full honors at a national cemetery... or whether one's entire life beyond their service should play a factor. You see, Selby was convicted just days before his suicide of 27 counts, including armed robbery, rape, kidnapping and attempted murder- most of these offense stemming from the rape spree he went on after he returned to civil life. He is believed to have at least 10 victims, alth

Dead at last...

Before Adam Walsh, there was another young boy abducted, stolen from his family. It was December 4th 1972, and Steven Stayner was just seven years old. He was walking home when a man kidnapped him- holding him hostage for seven years, subjecting him to unspeakable sexual and mental abuses. Steven was abducted by Kenneth Parnell, a self-proclaimed protestant minister, multiple felon and convicted child molester. Parnell kept Steven with him, telling people that the boy was his son, and calling him Dennis Gregory Parnell. "Dennis" and Parnell moved frequently around California with Parnell putting him into a series of schools. One of the few positive aspects to come out of Steven's life with Parnell was his dog, a Manchester Terrier whom Steven named Queenie. This dog had been given to Parnell by his mother (who never knew about "Dennis" during the whole period Steven was living with Parnell) on a visit he made a few days after the abduction, leaving the boy in

Woman drowns baby..

There's no name, just the details that the woman was from Wisconsin and 38 years old. She's accused of attempting to drown her twins, although one was able to survive, no thanks to her parenting skills. A Wisconsin woman has been charged with homicide after allegedly placing her newborn twins in a bathtub and watching them struggle in the water. A criminal complaint says one of the two-week-old babies died at the scene. The other is expected to survive. The 38-year-old woman was apparently upset over the shooting death of another son in Texas and wanted to kill herself. She said she was also having trouble breast-feeding. There's some 'blah blah' about her wanting the babies to go to heaven... but I'm willing to bet that the 'best thing for these babies' was the farthest thing from her mind... or else they would have ended up in the care of someone willing to love them, rather than a bathtub filled with water.

Boy rapes pet

I just have to ask... did anyone else read this ? I mean, where the heck where the parents in all of this? I can't seriously believe that a neighbor was able to notice that there was 'animal abuse' in the home, but that the supposed 'parents' that lived in the home didn't. A 14-year-old Utah boy has been charged with bestiality and lewdness for allegedly raping a dog, according to local affiliate FOX 13. If convicted, the teen could face up to one year in jail and a fine of $2,500 under state law, which classifies cruelty to animals as a misdemeanor offense. FOX 13 spoke with Cheryl Smith, executive director of the Utah Animal Adoption Center, about the case. She urged lawmakers to pass stricter laws against people who intentionally harm animals. What on earth is wrong with these people? I just don't get what could be so wrong with a 14 year old that he would rape anyone- including an animal.

Bad Parents Overseas

In what I hope is just the second of many guest posts by Cat, I'd like to share some highlights from her on just a few of the cases from 2007 that were going on in Germany. A bad year for children in Germany January 17th, 2007 In the city Thorey in the state of Thuringia 3 dead bodies of babies are discovered when pulling down a building. A 21 year old woman from Erfurt admits to have given birth to a boy at the age of 16 and later on 2 more children and that she hid the bodies there. March 17th, 2007 A newborn girl is stuffed into a plastic bag and thrown down from the 10th floor of a multistory building in Hamburg. Days later the police identifies the 26 year old mother as the offender. On September 18th she is sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison. April 14th, 2007 A 15 year old discovers two dead bodies of babies in his mothers freezer in her apartment. The 35 year old mother confesses to have packed the babies after the birth in trash bags and put them in the freezer. Th

Guest Post: Things you find on Ebay

The following is a guest post by German native Cat. She's a real doll, and was kind enough to allow me to post this here. It seems a current case in Germany proves that America's aren't the only sick people in the world... I read something really disturbing a couple of days ago in one of Germany's worst tabloids, but obviously other media picked up on it, too. Here's the link for the Germans of an article in the Saechsische Zeitung from January 18, 2008: http://www.sz-online.de/nachrichten/artikel.asp?id=1719341 And this is the translation of the article for my English speaking friends. Children offered on the internet - judiciary investigates Bautzen. In Spreetal near Hoyerswerda, two ethnic Russian emigrants in Germany offered their 2 children on ebay for "rental" for 1000 Euros a day. The prosecution of Bautzen has initiated proceedings for a preliminary investigation against the mother only, because she is the owner of the email-account, says prosecuto

Do me a favor...

I don't ask much of ya'll, so I feel it's more than okay to send out this small, painless request. It seems that Corey, from In Cold Blogger has devised a little 'best of' contest- relating to crime. From blogs and bloggers, to books and movies- it's some sort of criminal voting over there. Now, I was nominated in two categories. But, I'll just be honest with you- I find myself up against two great crime bloggers who are way more deserving. So, I'm asking that you go vote... for them. Trench, multi crime blogger and the original god father of crime blogging in the " Best True Crime Blogger " category, and Bonnie, of Bonnie's Blog of Crime for Best True Crime Blog . Congrats to all nominated... and best of luck.

Try to get it right...

Shirley, I'm not one to make a mountain into a mole hill although apparently you are. But, since I'm a nice person and I firmly believe that even the simplest of rabid animals can be enlightened, I'm going to do you a favor. # Outstanding warrant for violation of probation charge stemming from a 2004 arrest for possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. # Arrested multiple times on various charges, including burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly intoxication, driving under the influence, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, fraud, insufficient funds and larceny. # Arrested in 1991 on charges of a sex offense, fondling a child under the age of 16. # Registered sexual offender in Citrus County. # Has absconded more than once. # Driver's license suspended for 99 years. And don't forget that this very same person was arrested in Kissimmee in 1991 on a charge of fondling a five-year-old child or that during a house burglar

Aisha S. Bowen, Child Abuser, Video Star

Aisha S. Bowen, 18, was recently caught 'acting out' on a cell phone video. But, unlike many of the girls her age that tend to behave badly when the camera is on them, Aisha wasn't just being stupid and playing around. Instead she opted to physically abuse her 10 month old son numerous times . According to authorities, on Jan. 13, a resident went to the Ocala Police Department with a Sprint Treo cell phone that he recently had purchased and showed them a video clip of the woman hitting the child. The police report notes that the video shows the child being struck multiple times while being picked up by his arm, and shows him being carried to a bedroom and placed in a playpen, where he was again hit before being forced to lie down. The video was transferred from the phone onto a CD and placed into evidence. During their investigation, officers found the phone was previously owned by Jason Crisp, for whom they found an address, and that Aisha S. Bowen was at the same location

Chandler Rapist Indicted

Since we've been talking about the Chandler rapist lately , I figured I'd offer a happy update to the case against him. After a year of terrorizing Chandler Az, looks like he might be busy for t he next few decades... Santana Batiz Aceves, 39, who police believe is the "Chandler Rapist," has been indicted on 47 counts, including child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor, kidnapping, aggravated assault and burglary, authorities said Friday. The indictment, which was handed up by a grand jury, was made public Friday.

Things you should know

Seriously, I sit in shock as I relay this to you. It seems that NBC's much loved and much talked about special series, To Catch a Predator is going to be replaced.... although the new show will still feature sexual deviants, only now it seems they'll be on the payroll. More information...

America's Most Wanted..

It's that time again where I share highlights from this Saturday's upcoming episode of America's Most Wanted. And, where I remind you that if you are going to watch one show this weekend, this is the one to watch. After reviewing the cases myself, I'm willing to bet that you'll agree when I say that this weeks' most wanted need to be found and brought in... and you'll never know when you might have the tip to help do that. Unknown Fort Myers 8 Killer: After detectives recovered a cache of bones from eight men in a wooded area of Fort Myers, Fla., police are looking for some answers. Cops continue to try to find out who the men are, how they died and whether a serial killer is behind this gruesome mystery. AMW teamed up with a forensic artist to bring the men's likenesses back to life; do you recognize their faces, and can you help break the case wide open? Check out the case here: http://www.amw.com/fugitives /brief.cfm?id=51867 And the recreations of t

Two Rapist Released....

There has to be a better way to handle cases involving children too young or too scared to testify against their rapist. There just has to be. In this day and age- we have too many ways to connect crimes to those who committed them- we shouldn't be solely relying on testimony from children who have already suffered enough at the hands of these vile creatures. Two men accused of raping children walked free without a trial. Prosecutors said the victims are young and too emotionally traumatized to testify against the men. The charges will dropped against Ronald Pruiett, 31, and 47-year-old Larry Joe Smith on Friday. Both suspects in the case have previously been convicted of sex crimes. The men were neighbors of the children’s grandmother. The mother of the children said one of them contracted a sexually transmitted disease from the men. S ource..

And you thought you had complaints about your hospital...

Just a warning, in case of emergency- I don't recommend anyone rushing to the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital emergency room, that is unless they are willing to be assaulted under the pretense of an exam, and then tossed in jail for a few days for attempting to defend themselves from the intrusive practices. Brian Persaud, 38, said in court papers that after he denied a request by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital emergency room employees to examine his rectum, he was "assaulted, battered and falsely imprisoned." His lawyer, Gerrard M. Marrone, said Tuesday that his client was injured while working at a construction site in midtown Manhattan on May 20, 2003, and at the hospital later he got eight stitches for a cut over his eyebrow. Then, Marrone said, emergency room staffers insisted on examining his rectum and held him down while he begged, "Please don't do that." He said Persaud hit a doctor while flailing around and staffers gave him an injection, which knocke

More on the Chandler Rapist

As mentioned yesterday , the hunt for the Hispanic serial rapist known for attacking young girl in their homes after likely stalking them for days is over. Santana Batiz Aceves was captured, and it's looking like evidence is starting to tie him directly to the attacks. A search of the construction worker's belongings produced a work jacket and a silver and black pistol that match the description provided by some of the rape victims, court records released Monday indicate. In addition, authorities also recovered a blue hooded sweatshirt, a pair of dirty tan colored work boots, a steak knife with a black handle, and several toy guns belonging to the suspect's two young children - all of which the serial rapist wore or displayed during the attacks he carried out over an 18-month span, the records show. Perhaps most incriminating of all remains a swab of DNA material from Batiz Aceves' mouth, which places him at the scene of three of the sexual assaults. The deviant remains

Baytown Rapist Convicted

Statistics tell us every day that a woman is more likely to be the victim of rape than a man. But behind all the data, the studies and the reports there is the sad fact that even today, not all women will report sexual crimes committed against them. Whether it's fear, embarrassment, denial, self blame or any possible combination of reasons- it's a true to life fact that sexual assaults will always remain one crime that is not accurately reported among women. And if we are willing to accept that women don't always report rapes, we must also accept that men will forgo reporting them also- many times for the same reasons, and many times because they somehow feel that the crime committed against them makes them less of a man. As a society, we have to fight this notion, we have to be willing to accept that a sexually based crime can happen to anyone, of any gender, and any age. And for those that do find the courage to come forward- we have to be able to offer them justice. For

Chandler Rapist

I've previously covered the serial rapist of Chandler Az, you can view those posts here: 1 2 The good news of the case is that the suspect has been captured. Love when that happens! They sifted through more than 2,000 leads, meticulously checked out hundreds of contract or construction workers who matched the rapist's description, and spent countless nights and early mornings on surveillance. For all the painstaking efforts members of a special task force put into the "Chandler Rapist" case, the big break turned on a tip and a bit of luck. Continue reading for more insight into the capture of this pervert. The bad news is that *someone* suspects his arrest will cause problems. I know, I know... you're wondering how on earth the arrest of some vile deviant could possibly cause problems. Well, first- some "news" station was offended that the suspect was long called a "Hispanic". Regardless of the fact that the man was indeed a hispanic. And

Bad Parents Week

I've said it before, and I'll say it again- some people ought to be sterilized. No if and or buts about it, some folks just don't deserve the chance to reproduce. Here are a few examples: Man Charged With Killing Wife, Four Children in Ohio Mom charged in 'possessed' girls' deaths Search for 2 kids resumes in bridge case And this one... although the accused isn't a parent- shows so many signs of complete stupidity that allowing them to ever breed would be an endangerment to untold masses. Baby Dies From Head Injury After Baby-Sitter Swings Him Around in Sleeping Bag "She put my grandson in a sleeping bag and she swung it around her head and she let it go and let his head hit the metal door frame, fracturing his rear skull," said Debra Needham.

Eye for an eye... or in this case

The unnamed 32 year old man was clearly distraught after his unnamed 18 year old stepson raped the man's 8 year old daughter. And, no one can hold that against him. Of course, the mother of the stepson and daughter evidently didn't feel the same rage as the man, because despite the man's warnings not to bail out the little rapist- she did anyhow. You just have to know this story isn't going to improve for this family in any way shape or form right now. Here's the lead up: The stepson was arrested Jan. 2 and charged with suspicion of aggravated sexual assault. Police say the father caught him assaulting his daughter, and a subsequent examination at a hospital revealed the girl had been sodomized. The mother then bailed the son out. The step son, upon gaining his freedom made the horrible choice to call home, although instead of reaching his bleeding heart mother, the phone was answered by his understandably angry and emotionally overwhelmed step father, who agreed to

For Ashley

Ashley Howley's mother passed away in February, but her death didn't end the search for answers in Ashley's case. Ashley Howley originally from Michigan, moved to Columbus Ohio and had started a new life for herself when she disappeared. Her family long suspected that her ex boyfriend played a role in her disappearance, and openly discussed their saddened belief that Ashley had been a victim of abuse that resulted in her death at his hands. Police never arrested the ex boyfriend, Ashley's body was never found, and after years of unanswered questions- her case slipped into the ever dreaded 'cold case' status. I've covered Ashley's case extensively, and have long hoped that despite the status of the case, one day information would lead to enough answers to solve the case- and bring Ashley home. But we all know the odds of a cold case being solved, especially a case in which there was very little evidence and few tips to go on. The truth is, no matter how

The one I won't cover

Regardless of the fact that it's my hometown- there is a current case going on that I won't be covering. Not that I don't have thoughts on it, and not that I'm going out of my way avoiding the chance to express those thoughts... just that I don't see the point in jumping in a boiling pot before the soup has time to cool. Last Friday night, Lima police raided a home after investigating drug related crimes. 8 people where in the home, including the suspect. The remaining people in the home where a 26 year old woman, and her six children. During the raid, police shot and killed the woman, Tarika Wilson and also shot and injured a one year old child. The investigation into the shooting continues, and the drug suspect has been arrested, charged and is currently awaiting a hearing. You can read complete coverage by the local newspaper.

"Pretty" pedophile won't face jail

In yet another stupid twist of the legal system, it seems that 'too pretty for jail' Debra Lafave will not face any jail time over her most recent run in with the courts. The ex teacher, convicted of having sex with underage student was arrested on a parole violation after 'talking' with an underage girl. Terms of her parole forbid her from conversing with minors. Fine, fine, fine- I agree THIS shouldn't have put her in jail. But only because I still firmly believe that she should CURRENTLY be in jail on the PREVIOUS charge, back when she was playing the dating game by scoping through the student year books. Woman Charged in Children's Deaths

5, 6, 11 and 17- too young to have their lives taken from them, and even more tragic because the suspect in their murders appears to be their mother. A woman found in her home with the decomposing bodies of four girls faces murder charges, and authorities believe she is the victims' mother, officials said Thursday. Banita Jacks, 33, was expected to appear Thursday in D.C. Superior Court, where the charges will be formally presented, prosecutors said. "We are working on the assumption that these are her four children," D.C. police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a news conference. The entire story is worth reading, so click on over .

10 year old rape suspect

Yes, you read that right- police in Springfield Township Ohio are investigating an rape committed by (allegedly) a 10 year old boy. Police say the sexual assault took place in late December at the home where the boy lived. The victim is said to be his 7 year old step sister. The boy has been arrested. continue reading

America's Most Wanted 1-12-08

This week on America's Most Wanted the following cases will be highlighted. You can catch AMW at 9pm on your local Fox station every Saturday night. Boca Raton Murders: Boca Raton , Fla. police are still looking for Nancy and Joey Bochicchio's killer. Cops say their best lead is a composite sketch of a man wanted in another violent attack in Boca Raton. The similarities between that case and the Bochicchios' murders are eerily similar, and police believe the man in the sketch could be involved with the vicious double homicide of mom Nancy and 8-year-old daughter Joey. http://www.amw.com/fugitives /brief.cfm?id=51704 Donald Farrell Killer: Saturday, October 27, 2007 was Rowan University's homecoming, a night that brings thousands of people to the campus to celebrate and watch the football game. It was on this night that a group of four to five men brutally beat a 19-year-old student to death as a group of his friends stood by helplessly. http://www.amw.com/
