She loves me, I loved her

Your child survives nine months of horrible abuse- broken bones, bruises and more only to one day succumb to the beatings and die. Her beautiful smile, washed away by the agony that she suffered, her giggles quieted by the silence of death. Her story- The Kelsey Briggs story inspired both anger and hope in people all over the world. Anger that the people who should have been protecting her refused to, anger that the system put in place to save her failed... anger that her life was dismissed by so many that could have helped. Hope, because her death brought about changes, stronger laws to protect the children who would have otherwise found themselves walking in her shoes. Hope, because out of the pain a family who adored her and loved her showed us all that we can be better people- and make a difference against all odds- turning a tragedy into a opportunity to save other children.

For those who have read Kelsey's Story, you know just how heartbreaking it is, and you know how inspiring the Briggs family has been through all of this.

Now, for the first time you can hear from Kelsey's "mom". She's given an interview, which you can watch here. As for me, I didn't watch it. In fact, I couldn't get past one single quote in the story-

I have come to realize that I can't change what people's opinions are or what they think. It is a type of prejudice, making assumptions, and I continue to say Kelsey knows who her mommy is. She loves her mommy, and I loved her, and that's all that matters," Smith told Eyewitness News 5.

She loves.... I loved.

Maybe it's my own personal issue with the wording- but I for one am damn sure that if you called Kathie Briggs tonight, or any other member of the Briggs family, their words would would have ended with "I love her". For the Briggs, it has never been past tense.... and I can't imagine it will ever be.

Having had the chance to look at it previously, I had always found it rather informative, and well organized. Mom Arrested After Baby Found Mauled By Dogs

This is a story that I really don't want to share, it angers me all the while breaking my heart at how someone could be so cold and callous. My only comment is that there is always a better way. Some may of thought of going to the hospital, others may have thought about calling someone- anyone for help. But the complete disregard this person showed is horrifing. I was reading the illegal immigrant news this morning... you know, all about the Spanish National anthem... and all about their big rally May 2... and I started thinking. Perhaps, just perhaps we need to stand up. It may be a really good time to remind everyone who's country this is. 12 million illegals... heh, I think we can beat that. The rough estimate is that the US has a population of 298,000,000, or close too it. Take away the estimated 12 million illegals, and we still have 286,000,000 give or take some.
